UCLA or Cal for Japanese major?!

i'm going to major in japanese (going to become language translator/ interpreter for hopefully the entertainment industry) and wanting to minor in print journalism & film/tv and take courses in other languages like french/ italian. (yes i know i'm not actually gonna achieve all my goals, esp since neither school offers a journalism major or minor ._.)

i've never been to sanfran/berkeley/etc but i just went to LA two weeks ago so i can't really compare the locations .. but LA just seems to appeal to me more/ seems more exciting to live in than north cal ..
but berkeley is obviously the better and higher ranked school with more prestige ..
and both will cost the same for me, about 30k in loans after gift aid.

i have no idea which school would be better for me in terms of my major, bc japanese isn't one of those majors that have "top 10 ____ programs in the nation" sites dedicated to it ..

also, which has the better campus/ dorms?

and is it true the city berkeley's a lot easier to get around w/o a car than in LA, bc berkeley actually has a reliable pub transportation system?

and which is least likely to suffer from cali's bankruptcy?

should i be a bruin or a golden bear?? :</p>

any feedback is appreciated!

I am actually planning on doing so myself, I am currently studying business in bogota, Colombia but realized it wasn’t my thing, so I’m planning on applying for next fall. As far as I know, USF has a super solid program, and so does Stanford university, but Stanford requires SAT grades and is SUUUPER hard to get into…UCB has a lower acceptance rate too… I guess it all rounds up to where you wanna work at in the future…

$30,000 in loans for four years, or per year? $30,000 in loans per year is probably not advisable (= $120,000 in loans for four years, fodder for those “excessive student loan debt and no job” stories you see in magazines and web sites), and would need a co-signer.

Yes.

Berkeley.

The OP is now a junior at UCLA. Don’t bump old threads.
