im really torn between the two schools. i felt at home on both campuses, they both are very strong academically, and since im out of state they both would be about the same price. im thinking about going into medicine or dentistry, but also want to minor in film or something like that. any thoughts on what school might be the best fit?

Cornell.

It’s private. It’s ivy league. Go for it.

Nodnarb = LOL. Cornell = snow, way out in Ithaca (6 hr ride to NYC), but great Ivy connection.

I liked Cornell and UCLA’s campuses equally when I visited (in springtime). However, you’ll have to be able to handle the snow and being out in the middle of nowhere if you want to attend Cornell. The education is great, but after the past few years I feel like I can’t leave this SoCal sun and all the activity. I’m considering going back East for grad school, but we’ll see.

Why am I “lol” ?
Because I advised going to Cornell? I know it’s in Ithaca and I know it’s cold. But it’s not a mega huge public school (like UCLA), it’s a nice sized private school and an ivy. I don’t see why anyone would choose UCLA over Cornell… I mean UCLA is great and all but it’s not quite in the same league as ivies.

^ I think he was laughing at your name. He’s probably named Brandon too.

nodnarb, you’ve got a lot to learn about choosing top UC’s over ivies like Cornell. I would choose UCLA over Cornell (i got into both, Cornell costs more than twice the amount of UCLA). Though I would probably end up at UCB lol.

Cornell’s weather is the worst. I would not go there if there is a significant price difference. the benefits that comes with it being an Ivy are not worth it.

If you want to minor in Film i would suggest UCLA, it has one of the best Film departments in the country. It also a really good science school if your interested in medicine. Plus would you rather be in Ithaca where the weather is hell, or in LA!
Also, doesn’t Cornell have the highest suicide rate for any school? I swear i read something about it. Not to freak you out! It probably has to do with the horrible weather.
Plus UCLA is half the price for the same education!

alright guys, looks like ive finally made my decision. i think im going to pick UCLA over cornell, for many of the reasons you guys mentioned. i feel pretty good about the decision, though i dont really think i couldve made a bad one.
anyways, thanks for all the advice, it really helped.

blueducky: He (the thread-maker) is out of state, he said the price is the same. Therefore the benefits of Cornell are worth it. Hence my advice to go to Cornell over UCLA.
Sure if you’re choosing between UCLA and Cornell and UCLA will save you 20 grand a year then i’d go UCLA too. But I think it’s an indisputable fact that Cornell simply is a better school than UCLA in a lot of ways… maybe not weather and hot girls but a lot of other more important ways lol.

nodnarb,

You should come live in NY for a while. You might change your mind about the whole thing. Especially getting stuck in a blizzard. FUN.

I know a lot of Cornell grads, and their lives aren’t enriched beyond belief compared to mine.

GO TO CORNELL…i got into ucla, penn state, ut austin and REJECTED from cornell…so looks like im going to ucla… T___T im so upset abt it too…but if i had gotten into cornell, i wud ttly go to it…more prestige than ucla anway…so…GO TO CORNELLLLL

dhara2391,

You’ll enjoy UCLA as long as you don’t dwell on not getting in to Cornell. The opportunities are very similar, outside of Cornell’s stronger offerings in agriculture.

And trust me, the prestige won’t make or break anything.

cornell is not that prestigious, dhara. hahaahahaah
