UCLA or USC?

UCLA's Business Economics

or

USC's Business Administration

Both my First choice schools.

UCLA
Goods:
- Beautiful Campus and Nice Surrounding Neighborhood
- Overally Ranks Higher according to U.S. News
- Globally and Nationally more recognized
- Requires higher GPA to get in (trait of a prestigious school)
- Excellent Economics Program

Bads:
- Lack of Student Service and Unfriendly Staff
- No Business Administration Major
- Horrible Dorm
- Large Class
- Ridiculously hard to get good grades in class (extremely competitive)

USC
Goods:
- Excellent Undergrad Business Program (Ranks #9 in the nation)
- Excellent Service and friendly staff
- Excellent Networking from alumni

Bads:
- Horrible Campus + Ghetto Neighborhood
- Only recognized in Southern Cali (not very well known globally and nationally)

Which would you think is a better option?

I heard Marshall has a pretty tough curve too. I would check into that if I were you.

I thought you had your mind set on USC? Also, if you think you get a crappy dorm at UCLA.... just check out at the kind of housing you're going to get at USC... if you enjoy a 10 min bikeride everyday to school thats fine... just understand that you are riding through the ghetto.

They don't call it the University of South Central for nothing.

Anyway, yeah, I think should aim for Haas.

AGAIN?!?!?

You must really be stressing about this. You've asked some variation of this question a lot over the past week.

Of course.
It's my future we are discussing ;)
Whos knows?
I may be your consultant one day!

Yeah but you've really got lots and lots of time. Like, 9-10 months. It'll be fine. Promise.

You need to apply to both (which I am sure you are already planning on doing) then see where you get in. IF you get in to both then worry about which school is better. Why stress when you are not even sure what your options will be?

Yeah. That too.

how about u get into both and then start a thread like this lol too late, but i'd say ucla

let the flame war....COMMENCE!

UCLA. cheaper, more prestigious (higher ranked)

here is what my english professor (USC grad) told me about USC
Although the faculty tries their best to give individual attention to each student and to give top class education, USC is full of arrogant snotty rich kids. And he told me that UCLA has nicer ppl =)

can someone tell me which school has better financial aid?

thats sad if ucla has nicer people bc i've heard horrible things about unfriendly students at ucla..i dont know first hand so i won't comment but i've heard ucla folks are too isolated in their own cliques and are antisocial

ok so which school has better financial aid?

UCLA's fee: $8000 for in-state
USC's fee: $35,000 regardless of in-state or out-of-state

Is there a way to pay for USC as low as UCLA's?

ilovecali: that's sd, not ucla

(My experience) Since USC is a private school, they give out more financial aid than most public schools.

Asking this question is like asking which religion is better. If you live in SoCal the rivalry is top notch, and neither side is going to budge. My experience with UCLA has been dreadful to say the least... USC has been great to work with and I'm happy to be transferring there. Is UCLA a great school? Hell yeah! Do I have any desire to go there? No... none. Every time I've dealt with people at UCLA (during the transfer process) I was met with condescending and absolutely unhelpful administration. USC's campus may be in an older area of town... but it's hardly ghetto. Their campus is amazing, the neighborhood is rundown, this is true, and perhaps the area around the campus is ghetto, but it's not bad really... people blow it way out of proportion. The campus itself is simply gorgeous... but I guess the older architecture may not appeal to all. Anyway, what this is going to come down to is getting into both schools, as said before, and then choosing what fits you best.

Oh and from what I was told the Business Econ program at UCLA is neither a very good business or economics program (since it deals less with the more statistics based economics and more of a... well business approach, however this is hersay coming from other UCLA students I've spoken with who went through the program, I do not have any first hand knowledge of the curriculum). What you get instead is course material that sort of bridges the gap to make up for UCLA's lack of an undergrad Business program. I'm sure it's a good program, but... if you're interested in going further with econ you are probably better off doing their straight economics program. And one other thing, don't worry about USC's price of admission, they offer great financial aid if you qualify. There is someone in the transfer thread that got a full ride!

I studied the BizEcon curriculum, and they consisted of like 8 or 9 economics and 4 Accounting courses. So it's more of an Economics/Accounting major ;)

no, you cannot pat UCLA type of tuition to USC. Theres a reason why UCs are cheaper (public institution, funded by the State) than USC (private institution, self-funded).

Also, USC is not as ghetto as people say. The whole area where USC is at, stretching from the Staples Center down to Jefferson Blvd. is being revitalized with nice Condos and malls. Its becoming sort of like Westwood, so to speak. Also, the already existing neighborhood surrounding the campus is also very nice. Its only ghetto when you get to Martin Luther King Blvd. that it begins to get bad.
