UCLA Parking

Quick question. What's the general consensus among people about the best lot for parking. I'm applying for a parking pass which is why I am asking. Which lots are most ideal for life science majors? Closest to science/math classes, most convenient, etc etc for premed/life science? Thanks in advance guys. I really appreciate it.

I think UCLA just raised their parking price again.

Don’t be picky on which lot you get,… you’d lucky to get a parking permit … for any lot on UCLA campus. But Lot 9 is the closest one, followed by Lot 2, and lot 8 / lot 6 are also good, if you can’t get 9/2/8/6, then 4 or 7.

If your commute is more than 25 miles you’ll probably get at least 7. 7 is sort of in the middle of things so it’s not that bad. 2 is my favorite one because it’s right off Hilgard.

So if you’re more than 25 miles away in driving distance than just put 2,9,7 and for the rest put anything because you’ll get at least 7.

Lot 2 is the best for science majors. It is right across the street from Young Hall, which is where most of your lower division courses will be.

2, 9, then 7. Note that two is in demand since a lot of staff park there. Don’t list Lot 11 (which is on the Hill) unless you like walking a lot.

–so says a former Transportation staff member (yup, got a new job working for the Fund, raising money to make up the difference in what the state of California isn’t funding.)

are you commuting?

Thanks for all of your help. I changed my parking preferences. I don’t even see 2 on my app at all as a choice just 7, 8, 9, 6, 11, 3, 4, DD, CH, and SV.

Yes, I am commuting but the problem is I am going to be living off campus and commuting but as of right now my apartment arrangements aren’t ready so I will be commuting a bit from my parent’s home 35 miles from UCLA until I get my apartment situation finished. As a result, I put my home address down on the parking app while clearly on my financial aid it says off campus living (not at home). Is this discrepancy going to be a problem and necessary to explain because I obviously don’t have my address finalized in July yet.

That won’t be a problem. The Parking services take whatever information you submit through the application. They do random audits to verify this information. In that case, as long as you have two statements (credit card, bank statement, ect.) that are addressed to the residence you stated, you should be fine.

^ Thanks, that was very helpful :)
