I got accepted to UCLA as a transfer from a CCC for Business Economics. When I filled out my app, I didn’t select that I completed IGETC, because I wasn’t going to finish it at the time.
I now found out that UCLA accepts partial completion of IGETC and I can finish IGETC at UCLA if I two or fewer requirements left. If I take three online classes over the summer to satisfy all but one IGETC requirement, can I send the partial IGETC to UCLA after the summer and then only have one more GE to finish there?
You need to ask the Econ department to get more information because I only share my experience.
Last year I also had one course left to get IGETC because I dropped that course right before the release date of UCLA admission. So I similarly had partial IGETC. My initial request was to ask if I can turn the partial IGETC (I checked IGETC in my UC application). Then I learned something related to take more than 1 GE courses at UCLA, and I submitted another request to take that course in summer to turn in the full IGETC. With the full IGETC, most of our classmates still have to take either GE Diversity or GE History at UCLA (they just said the courses were not equivalent, that’s it, even though we took something similar in CCC already).
So, I think you should try to get the full IGETC in order to avoid taking extra GE classes at UCLA. The competition in Bus Major is really tough. Only about 30% of us can get A/A- (as we also need to have the average GPA 3.5 of Econ 11 and 101 and cumulative GPA 3.3), So, I don’t think you want to take more than 12 units every quarter or stays longer to graduate besides applying for internships, research, and job as soon as possible too. Oh, and maybe you want to do a minor too, then it is better to focus on Econ and Management courses only.
@tghemor in theory, the answer is yes. Many people do that. But — you seem to be saying you’re missing more than two courses (four?). They might not accept IGETC with that many missing. Normally you submit IGETC certification or Partial IGETC certification (2 or less missing) by July 15 (with any update in Sept). The date has been extended at some UCs (maybe all) due to the quarantine. But the main question is will they accept IGETC with your missing so many courses.
None of us can answer. You need to ask UC admissions (not the Econ dept). By the way, you need to get permission for any summer course at a CCC to be taken before you start at a UC.
@Ohm888 Yes, still have 4 courses left (2 Arts/Humanities and 2 Sciences). I have only transferred 60 units, so I was thinking that I could take 3 3 unit classes over the summer and finish the Arts/Humanities and 1 science, and then only have to take 1 science at UCLA.
On UCLA’s admission checklist, it says that all Summer Class transcripts and the IGETC completion form must be submitted by Sept 1, which will give me enough time to take the classes and submit the transcripts.
I will contact the UCLA admissions department and ask them.
