I have been addmitted to both schools, and from then on having the hardest time in my life. I love UCLA, but amlost everyone esle I have talked to advised me to go to UCB. I am looking for any reasons that would make my decison to join UCLA more jusrtifiable if you wish...

Berkeley's pol sci major is world-renowned and UCLA's isn't. Berkeley is the obvious choice. There are no undergrad rankings for pol sci, but the graduate ranking for Berkeley's pol sci program is #2 in the nation. I am not sure what UCLA's is but i know that it is significantly lower. Cal is know as one of the most, if not the most, politically active campus in the country. This reputation attracts a lot of top-notch profs and famous speakers and guests. UCLA does not have this.

Bottom line, its an obvious choice.....Go Bears!!!

such a strong arguement

ive chosen to go to la instead of cal for poli sci...just because i feel so much more comfortable at ucla. for the undergraduate level, its all about which campus you feel fits you the best.

ab_med,

That's why at least 3 of my poli sci TAs were internationals?

And UCLA's profs are top-notch. Just look at some of the names, including Zaller, Rogowski, and others. And I've seen some pretty amazing speakers at UCLA.

UCLA's poli sci program is a top 10 program. Berkeley's is easily a top 5. At the undergrad level, however, the difference is probably less pronounced.

But anyway ab_med, try talking about something you know about before you open your mouth.

UCLAri stands correct in my opinion. At the undergraduate level, the differences between UCLA and UCB poli-sci are minimal. If you're interested in law, you may want to go to UCLA to keep up your GPA -- as it is a bit easier. Law schools (and most grad schools for that matter) give hardly any recognition to UCB alums vs UCLA alums. It may be unfair, but you learn to plat the game.

UCB Political Science is ranked top 5 and UCLA Political Science is ranked top 10... At those levels, there's not much of a difference in the undergraduate education one receives.

I deeply appreciate your comments.
Thank you all.

Yeah, you can't compare Berkeley's political science programs to UCLA's above undergraduate level...

Strykur,

Sure you can. The UCLA program is not that far apart from Cal's, especially in specific areas. And both have very good placement records.

UC Berkeley's political science department is better in reputation.
However, unless it is extreme, the prestige of a particular program is less important than which school you like more.

Are you absolutely sure you completely want to do political science?

Even if you do political science, do you really want to do it at a school that you like less for four years?
I personally liked Berkeley more, but who knows which you like better? Look at the two and decide off of which you like better, not which polisci department is better.

A very good reasoning.

random question, haybaxt, weren't SIRs due 5/1?

He might be a transfer student, who get their decisions late in the year.

Yup, I am a transfer student..

haybaxt what GPA/SAT do you need to transfer to UCB or UCLA??

wbravo,

UC transfers don't need SAT scores, but GPAs tend to be very high for transfers, usually in the 3.5+ range.

I had 3.78 GPA
