UCLA Siblings?

I have a UCLA sophomore and a high school senior. I know that there is no “sibling benefit” at the UCs I see so many families with multiple kids at UCLA.

Is there really no advantage? It’s such a hard school to get into - so why so many from the same families getting in??

I think you’ve got a few factors going there. Similar standards from the same parents. A younger sibling seeing the success of the older one and wanting to emulate it. And if the younger sibling gets into UCLA and a bunch of others, they’re more likely to want to go to UCLA because they’ve seen their older sibling enjoying their time there. (And #4, it’s a great school, so they want to go anyway.)

I guess my question is… is there REALLY a sibling advantage even tho they say there isn’t? There’s no place on the UC Application to identify where a sibling attends so not even sure how there could be?

My younger daughter would love to go there. But with the rise in applications she’s obviously worried.

California publics cannot use alumni relations or affirmative action in their admissions decisions. Since it’s a public school directly managed by the government, there’s no wiggle room for bending the rules.

No.

My daughter faces the same issue with Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona. She wants to be able to go to school where he does. Her GPA won’t be as high as his (she’s already got one B from last semester and might repeat this semester), but she’s also going to apply to a much less competitive major (English vs CS). But no, they don’t track siblings or match up parent data from previous years’ applicants.

I was wondering the same thing! I have a daughter who is a junior at ucla and a senior daughter this year who applied and would love to go also. We shall see in a few weeks! :crossed_fingers:t2:

My son is a junior at UCLA and my twins, who are high school seniors, are hoping they also get into UCLA. If I’m not mistaken, though, there is no question on the UC application that asks if the applicant has siblings attending a UC school. I don’t believe there is any type of preferential advantage given to siblings. We’ll just have to wait a few more weeks to see if they get accepted! Hoping for the best!

There is no sibling legacy for UCLA, sorry.

No sibling legacy. In general for a private school too, a sibling legacy is weaker than a parental legacy anyways.

Well I can answer that question for sure now… younger sibling did not get in this year.

Same here! My older daughter is a junior at ucla and my younger daughter just got rejected on Friday. They had very similar stats as well. Insane number of applications this year!

My youngest had even better stats than my oldest. It’s absolutely insane for sure.
