UCLA is my dream school, and I'm pretty upset with the GPA I've received for first quarter. I feel like getting this GPA will absolutely ruin my chances of getting into UCLA... please enlighten me? Be honest, please.

UCLA has holistic admissions, so a bad GPA won’t bar you from getting in, assuming that your extracurricular activities and essays are good. A GPA that is terrible will significantly hurt your chances however. That being said, it really depends on what exactly your GPA is. If you got like 2 B’s this quarter (which seems to be the idea of a terrible GPA on cc) then you won’t be screwed. If you got like 2 F’s or something, UCLA might not be the best school for you.

In my opinion no it’s not everything. I barely had a 3.8 gpa weighted in high school. I got some not too stellar grades in a class or two in high school, and a few Cs, but I was really committed to my extracurricular activity (that I was in all four years,) and I was a decent writer so my UC prompt was convincing I suppose. Just write a really good prompt response :D

@tiabeaar If you mind me asking, what did you score on the ACT/SAT? I’m also worried about my GPA as well test scores for those are probably the two factors that are lowering my chances of getting into UCLA.

@tiabeaar: Here are my daughter’s details and her dream school is UCLA:
UC GPA: 3.76 (for grades10-12)
SAT: 2180 (CR:750 M: 630: W:800)
APs: WH (3), US (4), BIO(3), PSYCH(5) and ENG(3)
Awards:
AP Scholar with Distinction
National Honors Society Member

Essay Prompt #1: she is explaining how she has been affected by her health issues being born with a spinal cord related neurological disorderl.

She has worked very hard and would really like her to get admitted to her dream school.

She wants to do her B.A in Psychology.

Do you think she stands a chance? She is too nervous of her GPA. Out of 30 courses that she has taken – she has 15As and 15Bs and so don’t know what to expect…

Thank you to anyone who can give inputs to see what are her chances for an admission to UCLA…

High school grades are the primary predictor of college success and the initial focus of the UCLA admissions evaluation.

UCLA lists the following as “Most Important” for its selection of students in the following order:
Rigor of Courses taken at your High School
Academic GPA
Standardized Tests (SAT or ACT)
Personal Statement Essay

A good way to check your chances for UCLA is by comparing your GPA, test scores and high school course work to the “Profile of Admitted Freshmen for Fall 2013" at UCLA.

If you are meeting the marks for last year’s admitted students…you feel confident that you will be seen as a strong applicant…but because UCLA attracts thousands of strong applicants, there is no doubt the deciding factor will be your personal statement essays.
