one biz econ major just found out, check the biz econ thread

God, why can't they just post them all at once instead of leaving us all hanging like this.

right on, mschaaf...

4 of my friends got in LA... and i'm still hanging here... but they are all non econ or communication majors like most of us here....so lets hope there's still chances for us!

Any of you guys in the TAP program?

Nop, not in TAP

i bet you the admissions officers visit this site to see us suffer...

Siiighhhhh

For the Comm People-

They usually release all of them at the same time. Don't stress if it takes a long time, they just don't have very many people to review apps so it may lag a little.

I've already talked to tallkell about the gpa thing (and again, I think you're probably ok). Generally, 3.8+=in, 3.7something and below is not so in. You guys are all probably ok.

i like how you put it... not so in. Can i be in between?

Ha. What's your major? I can only speak for Comm.

Also, i just read through some of the other pages and all of the freaking out. Guys, i know that the numbers are scary. But seriously, the fact that you're on here means that you've probably really researched your transfer process and are really well prepared. You have a leg up over most of the people applying for comm, who just think it sounds fun and they'll try it out.

I mean, out of the 600 who applied last year, more than half didn't even have the absolute minimum 3.5 (let alone the recommended 3.8).

You'll be ok.

bleh, i applied to biz econ, the other tuffie...

we've only heard of one decision so far, and its been a rejection :(

Yeah. Bus Econ isn't quite as bad.

They usually release all/most of the decisions from any given department at a time (Comm for sure, but thats bc they do it in their own office). I'm sure you'll be fine.

And regardless, wherever you wind up, a year from now you'll barely remember how scared/nervous you were. And you'll laugh because it'll seem so silly. Promise.

wow with all this comm and econ talk i feel like i'm the last psych major still pending...do the majority of department release decisions seperately?

dmashtari, I'm a psych major too and I'm still pending. what're your stats?

Dmashtari- No. Comm is the only major (in L&S) that reviews and releases decisions directly from their own department with their own staff. All of the other majors are reviewed by the admissions department and released from there. The decisions being released by major is only a general thing and sometimes there are exceptions for whatever reason. Also, for bigger majors (psych has the most applicants and acceptances), it's understandable that they wouldn't be able to release them all at once. No worries.

so it's a good thing that all the communication majors who have not been rejected yet are still pending? I'm assuming we have a better chance of getting in now yes? or no? CRAP!

I can't predict your chances relative to other release dates. All it means is that it's simply unreleased. But I'm sure that it won't be much longer.

PS- If the grades were good and the classes are done, you'll be ok.

allie, when was the latest decision last year?

I had a 3.9 as a comm. major, and was in the honors program that had a direct relationship with UCLA admissions. My counselor basically told me I will have a very good chance when it comes to LA. Now i'm freaking out; damn counselor lied to me.

Why are you freaking out? You have a 3.9, you're fine. I say this all the time around here and no one believes me, but I'll say it again: Comm literally looks at the application, looks at the gpa, and puts it in a pile. The top ?? (~80) get in, the rest don't. A 3.9 should be plenty.

Oh, and honors/tap actually isn't considered for comm. That's something counselors almost ALWAYS forget to tell you. I didn't find out until I had been TAP certified for a semester. They'll look at it, and the extra effort will make you look good, but you don't get the extra point and it doesnt have any actual weight.

I had a counselor lie to me, who said that I should think about changing my major (2 months before apps) because I "only" had a 3.85 and that probably wouldn't get me into comm. He was wrong. Another counselor couldn't do the basic math to calculate my gpa and almost told UCLA on my TAP form that I had a 3.4 (which would have eliminated me from comm). Usually, I take what CC counselors have to say with a grain of salt. However, yours seems competent. Yay.
