UCLA Transfer Appeals 2016

With the shooting on campus I think it is understandable that getting out appeal decisions aren’t much of a priority for today especially since the campus was on lockdown for a few hours. With that said, still hoping for a decision by the weekend.

Nothing, getting really nervous…

They cancelled all classes for today - I’m guessing admissions office will be shut down as well.

I hope that was the case or it could be because they are waiting to see how many SIR? What are your backups guys?

Has anyone placed a call to undergraduate admissions?
I wouldn’t mind doing so. UCSD or Berkeley is where I will go if not UCLA. I’m a philosophy major.
But my brother (also a first-gen college student) attended UCLA, so I want to continue the tradition!

I submitted my SIR to UCSD a few weeks ago so I could enroll in summer classes there that were almost full. I got a fee waiver so I fortunately won’t be out $100 in case my appeal is successful. I’m excited for San Diego if UCLA doesn’t work out.

I just called the admissions office. The lady said that it would take a while because UCLA has to go through everyone on the waitlist, figure out the SIR count, etc. She said that decisions would be released by the end of the month. (I think it’s prob safe to say that it won’t take that long, though.)

Also, amen to the waiver. I was also eligible and La Jolla is amazing!

I submitted my SIR to UCSB - but I’m a non tradition student (32 y/o). I’m accustomed to working full-time and having my own place - so the housing/money situation @ UCSB is a challenge for me - If my appeal @ UCLA is successful, I can keep my job and my place

Congratulations on what you’ve been doing! I sincerely hope it works out for you.

Thanks @salingers for letting us know, I really hope they are able to let us know tomorrow, I really want to attend UCLA. UCI is my backup… I think most UC have the waiver for the enrollment fee.

Prayers for all of us, let’s not lose hope!

Can we still go to UCLA if the appeal is approved and we have already SIR’d to another school? I thought you were not able to change once you have SIR’d to a campus.

Sorry if this has already been answered.

@danjackson You can withdraw your SIR and enroll at another UC. I asked an admission officer at UCSB to be certain of this. It makes sense; none of the UCs have perfectly synced their appeal approvals.

@danjackson if you have already Sir to another school, and say UCLA happens to accept you, you can cancel the previous school that you SIR’ED too and accept UCLA’S SIR. Hope that helps.

@danjackson You can always withdraw - each UC has a process for withdrawing admission - some schools make it available (like UCSB) within the student portal.

I’m just not sure about your $100 deposit.

@danjackson if you’re appeal is approved then you just let the other school know that you won’t be attending in the fall amd submit your SIR for UCLA. There is no penalty for changing unless you had to pay the $100 which is nonrefundable. I would highly suggest submitting an SIR to your backup school today since it’s the deadline and you want to make sure they hold your spot.

Thanks so much everyone! I was worried that the various UC’s can see if you have SIR’d somewhere else and automatically reject any pending appeals applications.

I think that the information from the admissions lady that @salingers talked to is interesting because last year appeal decisions were released a week before the waitlist decisions

@Absabs yeah; idk how well-connected the people on the phone are with regard to these matters. I mean, weren’t decisions released june 3 of last year? and berkeley is at least promising decisions somewhere close to june 17. your bit of information is quite telling, too. so the waitlist decisions were released mid-june in 2015?

Yeah waitlist started coming out the second week of June last year. Someone on the freshman appeal thread who’s a transfer said they called admissions who told him they’d release decisions by the end of the week and when I called last week they just said sometime in June
