I think SD is a pretty much lock, Berkeley pretty good chance, but I don't think I'm getting into UCLA, I was suicidal and on meds but no real life challenges like they like at UCLA...

If you need more info I probably left out alot of EC's and academics feel free to ask

I'd actually say that you have a good chance at UCLA.

UCB/UCLA: match
UCSD: safe match

yourmom182:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match

UCB/UCLA/UCSD:Match

UCLA is no tougher than Berkeley. Both are matches.

Yeah, but UCLA takes into account "Life Challenges" in its comprehensive review, while Berkeley does not. Also, a few kids from my small private school get into Berkeley every year while last year only one got into UCLA and he lied on his application.

Are you kidding me?

I got into UCLA and Berkeley, which I am currently at, without writing about "life challenges" except maybe hinting slightly at my parents' divorce.

(UCLA and Berkeley's admissions are on the same level, although one usually accepts/rejects the other's acceptants, which is quite odd.)

Trust me, UCLA is not THAT difficult to get into. You don't need to have been homeless to get admitted.

(I applied out-of-state as well...I wasn't a California resident and still got admitted.)

Delicatess, if you don't mind do you think you can post some of your stats, I'm just curious on what what kind of out of state students get admitted to UCB because I live in washington and am trying my balls so I could get to UCB. Thanks.

Wow delicates thats pretty cool. I wouldn't mind seeing your stats and year as well (To see how competitive UCLA was at the time.) UCLA doesn't say how much each category (Life Chal / EC / Academics) is weighted overall so who knows we shall see.

I'm a sophomore.

My SAT scores: 1420 out of 1600 (old SAT)
SATII: 720 History, 710 Bio, 770 Writing
ACT: 32

(My scores weren't spectacularly high either.)

I took 10 APs with the following scores: 5 in English Lang, 5 in Stats, 4 Calc BC, 4 Calc AB, 4 US Hist, 4 Eng Lit, 3 Chem, 3 Bio, 3 Physics C (I'm obviously not a science major)

4.8 UC GPA (I think; I'm really not sure how they do this); unweighted I had a 4.0; I was ranked 3rd out of a class of 500.

ECs: Key Club Vice President, FBLA Vice President, Honor Choir, Piano for 12 years, Dance for 3 years, Private vocal lessons, Volunteer at a homeless center for 3 years, National Honour Society, Mock Trial, Academic Olympics

Awards:

FBLA State winner in 2 categories
Piano Regional awards
Vocal performance: National Music Teachers' Association Regional National award (won't specify region)
Mock Trial Northern regional state winner (team award) (won't specify which state)
Academic Olympics regional winner (team award)

I didn't put any life challenges down at all but wrote 3 essays. The first was based on my interests, mainly regarding art/music. The second was about my transition from different schools and the third I can't even remember because it was so insignificant.

I'm just saying though, your stats are more impressive than many admits'.

Delicatess,

Your stats were so good as to be depressing for the rest of us lucky peons. I swear, some of the people who go to Cal and UCLA are really something else...

Thanks UCLAri. I'd say my stats are "okay."

I have met some pretty amazing people at Cal though that could have made it to MIT; in fact I've met those who have rejected MIT to come to Cal. Of course there are many that make you wonder how they lied on their application...

Dear Delicatess,

I hate you, you overachieving little smartypants.

Love,
UCLAri

UCLAri,

Sorry to incorporate this into this thread, but:
Don't hate the player; hate the game you underachiever.

Love,
Delicatess

Hey hey, who said I was an underachiever? I'm just in-between. Like an achiever, or a semi-overachiever.

It's hard to call me an underachiever considering my credentials, but people you are just a special category. ;)

how can you rank 3/500 if you have 4.0... probably cuz your last name starts with z or something huh??

They weighted our GPAs; Two other people took more AP classes than me and thus had higher GPAs. The 4.0 was unweighted.

UCLAri,

Ah, okay sorry, mediocre-one.

However you have gotten around quite a bit doing fun stuff like EAP and UCDC. Kudos on that; I'm jealous.

VERY impressive Delicates... your acomplishments let there be little need for challenges in your life, you brought them upon yourself with all the stuff you did.

Btw updated stats:

SAT 2260
UC GPA 4.35 (took honors course in summer.. had to add it)
3rd in class
