Definitely whatever is cheaper; admittedly I haven’t committed to UCLA but it looks like UCLA will offer me more money than Berkeley so I’ll likely commit before mid-May.

Dorms, university apartments, co-op, even off campus housing; just give me the cheapest (though I want to avoid the coop if I can :D)! If I get that regents money I’m definitely going into dorms, though my finaid is probably going to be low cause of my family income bracket.

EDIT: Actually, I think I’ll take that transfer theme housing.

Overall GPA 3.83, Major GPA 4.0.
IGETC-Yes, Kind Of… Another Story in itself but I am when Moorpark College sends out my Official Transcripts to LA CC System.

Always believe in yourself! It is natural to have atychiphobia but you have made it this far, that means you are on the right track. Continue to do whatever you have been doing and you will do just fine. You will be with plenty of your peers, we all have the same dreams and aspirations. You worked hard to get into UCLA, and they see it, now I hope you see it as well!

@OCaptnMyCaptn Hey man, I didn’t know you were a history major too! I’ll see you during STOMP? And don’t forget to join the transfer group if you haven’t already https://www.facebook . com/groups/uclatransfers @-) holycraphowdidinotnoticethisoneb4

@cochoa14 There’s no question, you have to come to UCLA. I chose this place over UCB and I haven’t regretted it for a moment. I can’t speak for the difficulty of the other UCs, but I will say that UCLA really isn’t a bad as you might be thinking. As far as I know, the difficulty is pretty comparable for all UCs, so you’re basically left with whichever school fits your sensibilities best. I’ve been to UCSD and UCSB, and I think the stereotypes fit them both pretty well. I don’t know how bad the party scene really is at SB, but SD is definitely dead as far as I could tell. UCLA is a pretty good mix of intelligent people that can be sociable on the weekends.

In regards to the competitiveness of the school, that really isn’t something you have to worry about with non-STEM majors because the professors don’t grade on curves. There might be some competition with internships, but you would get that anywhere. Most of the history classes here are relatively easy, just as long as you keep up with the reading. You’ll be assigned about five times as much reading as you had at CC, so add that to the fact that the quarter system moves at warp speed, and you have a very busy workload. Just budget your time and don’t take a huge workload the first quarter. Also, don’t even consider taking a minor or major until your second or third quarter.

As far as professors go, you have to take Langdon your first quarter for Roman history. It’s a lot of information, but the only requirements are an optional midterm and an in class final, and he is a really interesting and fun professor to take. I would also recommend McClendon for British history, and her 97 and 191 history seminars, and as far as I know, taking Teo Ruiz before you leave is a graduation requirement. In all seriousness, though, he’s probably one of the best professors you’ll ever have, so don’t miss an opportunity to enroll in his class. I’m sorry, I know this is really long, but I hope I gave you some valuable information to help you decide. The most important thing is to never feel like you didn’t earn your place here. You may be intimidated by the school, but trust me, this place is not that different from CC. That was probably the biggest surprise for me after my first semester. My expectations of what it was like at a big university were much different than reality. Good luck, and enjoy your time wherever you decide to go.

@repo11 thanks for all the info. One of the best informative post I’ve seen. You answered many questions I had. Anyways, did you live on-campus or off-campus? How was your experience? Which housing option is best for first year transfer students? Thanks for all your help!

I was also having doubts about whether or not I belong at UCLA, but I figure, they picked us for a reason! And it has an incredible history program. I was denied from UCSB, where I had planned to go, but comparing the departments at each school and the experiences from people at those schools, I am glad that it was UCLA that chose me.

Also, it’s awesome to see so many history majors here!!!

Don’t worry if you weren’t UCLA material you wouldn’t have gotten in.you worked hard and did good enough to get accepted.it is definitely intimidating going from a cc to a topped ranked school like UCLA but just continue working hard and you can do it. Btw I’m a history major as well.waiting for Berkeley to decide which school I want to transfer too

Good to see so many history majors!! Out of curiosity, what do you guys plan to do once you graduate? The reason why I’m doubting myself is because I plan to go to grad school and I think it will be much harder to maintain a high gpa at ucla than the other respective schools. But after reading all of these posts I’m feeling more confident that it is possible! @rosemeadboy did you get accepted to ucla? Are you from Rosemead? Lol.

@cochoa14 I personally don’t think I can go to grad school yet. I currently have an internship with a museum and it is likely that I will gain a job from it, so that’s the plan right now! But if I can attend UCLA I am also hoping that even more doors will open.

@cochoa14 yup i got accepted to ucla and from rosemead! @OCaptnMyCaptn rosemead people are doing it big!lol jk do you two plan to commute or dorm? but congrats to the both of you
