Despite UCLA not being too well known for music (small size), I am surprised by its demanding repertoire requirements for audition. I was wondering if anyone knows how competitive the music school is, particularly in the violin, and possibly as far as how many are even in the music school.

I don't think UCLA accepts many music students (or at least for violin and cello). I know that last year, the cello professor accepted 1-2 students. And alsom I know of a violinst who got in last year.. Not sure about the competition for violinists.. But my friend did not choose to attend there anyway.

The MM program is pretty competitive. The BA (not BM) in performance is small but pretty strong.
Now that Mark Kaplan has left for Indiana, there's not so much to draw violin students.
