UCLA vs. Berkeley

Daughter was admitted to both and is trying to decide. Which do you think offers the best all around undergraduate experience? She's interested in English, Spanish, history and Asian/Middle Eastern studies. She wants to have a good time -- maybe join a sorority. But will not have a car. I know that's not a problem at Berkeley, but how about UCLA? Can you get out on the weekends and do fun things without a car? Is everything around campus really expensive? I hear UCLA guarantees four years of housing. True?

There's actually another thread floating around somewhere about the two universities, but it doesn't really contain any useful information I don't think. You can get around without a car (university shuttles, blue buses, metro buses, metro rail line all nearby), and parking is really expensive so its probably better to use the public transit system. Westwood is just a few minutes away by foot, so food should never be a problem, and the prices vary. UCLA technically guarantees 3 years, but they do offer some fourth years housing (not all this year though).
