So I have gotten acceptances from both UCLA and UC Berkeley. I am trying to decide which one to go to. I have visited both campuses. I liked the UCLA campus a little more and I also feel like it would be a bit more enjoyable there. However i know Berkeley is an incredibly prestigious university and I don’t want to pass up the opportunity to go to such a great college. Can anyone give me any insight as to which i should select? Am I wrong in my assumption that UCLA will be more enjoyable? In college i am looking for a great balance between and excellent education and enjoyable experience. Any suggestions as to what I should do??
What are you majoring in, are the costs the same?
@iamsaucy Costs are the same at each school so money is not a factor in my decision
@iamsaucy Same major for both schools too. Biochemistry.
“Enjoyable” is subjective, so go with your gut. And it sounds like your gut is telling you UCLA - a fabulous school, says this Cal grad. UCB may have some historic prestige advantage, but everyone today recognizes UCLA as the powerhouse that it is. Congrats on both acceptances; you can’t go wrong, but apparently you prefer being a Bruin.
Given that I am a bruin I am warning you I have some bias, but based on what you said I agree with katliamom in the sense that you seem to be favoring UCLA!
In complete honestly, Berkeley and UCLA are both incredibly prestigious so I wouldn’t keep that from submitting an SIR to UCLA. Berkeley may have some historical advantage given that they were the first UC, but for the most part people really do put them on the same level.
Also, though I’m not a math/science major myself, I’m inclined to believe that UCLA is an incredible school for Biochem. Literally 70% of my friends are in that major or something quite similar, so you’ll definitely find a community here within your major pretty easily!
Finally, in terms of enjoyment, I can vouch for the fact that it’s amazing here. What I’d suggest doing is looking through the UCLA club catalog and find 5-10 clubs that you can see yourself in, and do the same thing at Berkeley! I’ve been to both and can attest to the fact that socially they are very different, and I think that by looking at what leisure and extracurricular activities each school has (or the type) you can uncover which school you’ll really have the most fun at. I know someone who wanted to go to Berkeley soo badly, got to UCLA begrudgingly and is now having the time of her life. Either way, you’ll make it work.
You’re deciding between two INCREDIBLE schools! Congratulations and if you have further questions about UCLA feel free to message me!
