Ucla vs umich oos

Hi guys,

I was wondering if it is a better decision to go to ucla (instate) or umich (oos with 20k/yr) for computer engineering?

Thanks!

The cheaper one sounds like a better deal.

It only cost you $20k for Michigan?

@DrGoogle it is 20k scholarship per year so about 30k to attend per year. Is this or ucla in state (cse) more favorable?

They are both similar, so pick the one you will be most comfortable. When my daughter had similar choices, I found there is a slight risk of going to Michigan and not liking the area and the weather for some reasons then she has to come back to California and starting from scratch. There were a few kids in the neighborhood that went OOS and came back after one year for various reasons. It’s much harder to get accepted to UCLA in state. Just keep that in mind when you make your decision.
Also there is a 2.5 miles from the engineering building to the rest of the campus, so that was not a plus.
Another thing I didn’t think UCLA offers computer engineering any more base on posts in this forum. IIRC, it’s either EE or CS, so make sure that is something you will be studying. Computer Engineering at Michigan is excellent.

@DrGoogle did your daughter choose ucla over michigan? If so, how is her experience there (in terms of education, social life, campus, etc.?)

No she went with UCSD because she likes it better and has regents there.
