Ucla vs UMich

UCLA for the weather
mich for football
ucla for bball
academics: push

UCLA is awesome

and to the whole regional bias, internationally ucla trumps michigan

I am from the east coast over where it is common to go to UVA or Michigan telling people I go to UCLA is cool I get warm responses people back east see it as a sort of “dream school” it is weird though because back east people see UCLA UVA Michigan as top public schools however people here in the west are in lala land and see UCLA and CAL as superior to michigan and UVA people think UVA is a farm school or something haa go where you will be happy I fell in love with UCLA at a young age ad couldn’t see myself going anywhere else

I wonder why everyone assumes undertaker cares AT ALL about international reputation. This is so irrelevant to his decision.

Hate to be plain here, but it completely depends on where you see yourself fitting better. Both are fantastic schools with fantastic reputations.

Thanks arcadefire (great band btw). I understand that they’re both considered great schools and they’re pretty neck and neck when it comes to rankings. Does UCLA make it really hard to get an A? Because I plan on going to dental school and it’s almost impossible to do so if you don’t have a 3.5. Do you think USC is better than UCLA and UMich?

If everything looks the same, pick Cali. why?
The weather is freaking cold here.

undertaker: It’s pretty hard to get A’s at any reputable school. The curves are pretty high because you’re competing with a bunch of overachievers. I wouldn’t let that sway your decision either though. If you were comparing schools like UCLA and UCI, then I would say that you should factor in that it’s probably easier to get A’s at UCI. All the schools your considering are pretty much on the same tier, so I’d assume it’s near equally difficult to get A’s. I believe the average GPA at UCLA is around 3.2 or so, so the average student is doing pretty well.

No, I don’t think USC is a better school. I was offered a fantastic scholarship to USC but chose UCLA instead. Obviously, you may disagree if you visit the school and feel like it’s a better fit. Reputation is definitely in UCLA’s favor, however.

Oh gosh. If you’re going to ask a UCLA forum which is better, it’s obvious you’re going to encounter a bunch of UCLA homers who will do anything to justify UCLA as the better school.

The truth is, both UCLA and Michigan are pretty much the same and their differences are marginal in regards to academics. Nobody is going to think you’re an idiot if you go to either and nobody is going to think you’re way better than a Michigan grad if you went to UCLA. We’re comparing UCLA with Michigan, not Bob Jones State College and Harvard.

If you plan to settle and live in the Great Lakes Region, you’re better off going to Michigan because the people there know the school well and because most Michigan alumni are there. If you plan to live in California, then come to UCLA because everyone here knows more about UCLA and because most UCLA alumni are in California. It’s as easy as that.

This can only be settled one way, visit both

dude its hard to get As in the premed classes…chem is harddd like soo much…and bio only give out 15% As, you mess up a little in bio and u get a B

Both are excellent schools, and outside of CA, I am of the opinion that Michigan is generally better known.

However, Michigan is a state in a bad place, and although Ann Arbor is itself an amazing town, you have fewer options for a local big city trip. At least at UCLA, you can hop on highway 405 and go down to San Diego if LA starts to bore you.

How do you handle winters? Ann Arbor doesn’t get too much lake effect I hear, but it’s still much colder. Weather matters.

Have you visited both? See what you like and don’t like. Try making a checklist and see what you end up with. A lot of times these things seem jumbled in your head, and once you write it down, the answer becomes clearer.

I’ll have you know that my second cousin went to Bob Jones State. It’s a fine institution. Up there with Podunk U and Boondocks College.
