UCLA vs University of Utah (Engineering)

Hi all!
I am currently trying to decide between the University of Utah and UCLA, I was hoping to study mechanical engineering and hopefully aerospace eventually.

I was wonder what your thoughts are, thanks in advance.

P.S. I’m from Utah

Have you been admitted to both?

Cost and loans needed at each?

Can your parents afford the $60K/year at UCLA?

Come to UCLA!

I’m trying to raise $1million/year for the UCs, which I can do if I can get 20 OOS kids to enroll. I think they give me a t-shirt

Sure, there’s nothing special in it for you. The same large classes, impersonal atmosphere that you can get at any public. And you’ll be studying just about the same things in any ABET engineering program. You’ll be paying the price of a private college that would give smaller classes and personal attention. But its UCLA!! Your pals in HS will be impressed!

^ it is not as dramatic as @mikemac is trying to portray (though I agree that the cost difference could be DRAMATIC to your parents!). But if it can “impress your pals in HS” as the above poster mentioned, then it can also “impress” your job interviewer!

The UCLA name will help you for sure

Interviewers, alas, are not HS kids. They know how similar engineering programs are across large publics.

But hey, pay that no regard. Bruins!! You need to do this!!
