for all those who are seniors now, is UCLA your first choice? why or why not? and which other schools is UCLA going to be competing with for you?

How is ucla for computer science?

For me, I guess either ucla or umich.....

hey dis was my first choice..if dey had ED, i woulda applied ED. But they dont..but i got into stanford EA....but if i do get accepted to UCLA, im going there/

ucla is my first choice because of the high prestige, the location, and its within my reach

i also applied to UCSD, Cal, UCI, and USC

USC is my #2 choice... i like it as much as UCLA but it costs a lot of money

UCLA is my first choice.
Also applied to Stanford, Dartmouth, Amherst, Harvard, Cal, and UCSD.
Hopefully my bioengineering major wont affect my chances too much.

On a national level for CS, UCLA is ranked #14, while Michigan is ranked #20, although that's probably at the graduate level only. At the undergrad level the difference is probably negligible.

UCLA offers two computer science degrees: Computer Science, which is a straight major coupled with a technical minor (intended to prepare CS majors to apply their knowledge to related fields), and Computer Science and Engineering (which ought to be called Computer Engineering, although you can take CS electives like a regular CS major would).

Michigan offers three degrees for computer science: Computer Science B.S. (LSA) and Computer Science B.S.Eng. (ENGR), which are essentially the same CS major but with slightly varying GE requirements, and Computer Engineering, which is like UCLA's CSE program. So technically you could be a student in the LSA college and take a full engineering load while at Michigan.

Both are equally good for CS... you can't go wrong either way.

UCLA is my number one choice along with Stanford University and Georgetown University (accepted under EA).

UCLA: I've studied there and lived at UCLA over the summer and I absolutely love the campus. Plus, Westwood is the one of the greatest college towns (though not really a "town" per se). It's also close to home 1-2 hours depending on the 405 (possibly the worst freeway in the world).

Georgetown: It's in Washington, D.C. and great for my major as a political science program. They also have an Early Assurance program for their law school (which I want to attend). Plus, I've been accepted.

Stanford: In California and close to home (6-8 hour drive); great academics (like all the aforementioned schools) and guarenteed housing for 4 years.

I've also applied to Berkeley, UCSD, UC Riverside, and Washington and Lee University.

UCLA is my numero uno choice! It's competition is Stanford, USC, UCSD, and UCM (close to home)

It would be my first choice, above Berkeley, if it was closer to home. It just appeals to me more. But it would be a damn pain to have to commute from LA to the Bay Area as often as my parents would want.
