so a 700 can equal an 800 if the percentiles are the same? its relative to the difficulty of the test each time right?

Well, a 700 never "equals" an 800. All a percentile tells you is how well you did compared to sample of 100 people.

But percentiles are relative. For example, it explains why 800s are common on the SAT II for Chinese (native speakers), but percentiles are typically low (even an 800 is nowhere near 90th percentile.)

However, a good score is a good score, despite a percentile.

SAT2's and SAT1 are weighted the same now. i know that ucsd and other uc's use a formula to determine eligibility. im sure la and berkeley dont use it, something called the comprehensive review. i've never understand how they weighted each component.

The new emphasis on the SAT I think is, in part, due to the writing section.

UCLA and Cal do not use a strict formula, but rather a more holistic approach-- you are correct.

If I got an 1860 on my SAT's, but a 28 on my ACT Composite, should I send in both or just the ACT? Or just take the SAT again and hope I improve? I don't know if i can improve!! eek
