Ucla

AP's i've taken:
AP chemistry, APcalc bc, AP us history, AP computer science A, AP physics B, AP English language and comp.
Senior year schedule: AP english literature and comp, AP biology, AP psychology, AP physics C, AP economics, AP government(second semester).

my gpa is a 4.33. i know that UC's recalculate your gpa, and since i've taken so many aps, my gpa will be lower beacuse they take up to 8 semesters.

i've also taken calculus D and Linear Algebra at a state university.

i've got some EC's but i dont wanna list them.

so far, my SAT's are not that great, but i hope to improve them to at leat 2050 or 2100. what are my chances as my SAT score is now 1930?
what about for engineering, so to speak?

Dimedropper,

You're easily in the match or even safety range. You're good. Pull the SAT up to over 2000 and you're very good.

however, i may have to add that my SATII's are weak too. chemistry-720 and math2-710.

What are the percentiles on those? They don't seem too weak from the raw scores to me.

do the percentiles matter alot? umm chemistry was 87 and math was 70 something i remember.

Percentiles are, in many cases, FAR more important than the scores themselves. It shows what that score is actually worth. Remember that a 700 on chem is not the same as a 700 in US history.

Even with your SAT II scores, you're in fine shape.

thank you very much for your helpful inputs. why are you so quick to respond that i am safe for ucla or whatever uc's? my gpa may be deceiving; i have not gotten straight A's whatsoever.

dimedropper,

I've seen many many posters come through with scores just like yours, freaking out that they're not in good shape, and reassured all of them that they're in fine shape.

You're not different.

And you don't need straight As to get into UCLA. Trust me.

i see, thank you for the reassurance. do the UC's see any of your senior year grades? first or second semester? i am aware that if under 3.0 is obtained, they will rescind admission. However, if 3.0 or above is obtained, do UC's look at it? any midyear reports?

They will see your grades, but they have an extremely negligible effect on anything that occurs post-admission.

Just don't dip below 3.0 and don't take their warnings lightly.

thank you. i hope they dont frown at the 3.0 flat, if i attain one. how big of a role does community service play in the admission process of UC's, specifically UCLA?

Not a huge one, but it can be a tipping point.

the uc essays are like interview questions, are they not? no need to be flowery and stuff. straightforwardness and to the point, but at the same time catchy and interesting

And well written (tone+technical stuff). That's probably the most important part.

dimedropper:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Slight Reach, Reach (Engineering)

what about non engineering

Like flopsy said...

"dimedropper:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Slight Reach, Reach (Engineering)"

You're a slight reach for non-engy, reach for engy.

oh thats what it means. ok, my bad

are you serious?! colleges actually know the percentiles and factor them into admissions? wow...my 760 on math 2c is 76 percentile...kind of sucks.

AzNChoiBoi8,

You think the percentiles are just there to tickle their sides? Pfft.

A 760, despite being in a seemingly lower percentile, is still good. Keep in mind who you are competing against for math 2c.
