UCLA's lame introduction on UofC website

is it just me, or does UCLA have like the weakest introduction of the top UCs? i'll put up the top 3 for comparison (UCB, UCLA, and UCSD)

i'll start with berkeley:
One of the world's leading academic institutions, UC Berkeley attracts the best and brightest applicants, generating an ethnically and culturally diverse student population and providing one of the finest undergraduate learning experiences available
ok this seems like a nice, fairly expected introduction. Next i'll introduce UCSD
A world-class university. Spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. A renowned faculty, boasting 17 Nobel laureates and a former astronaut in its four short decades. Bright and talented students. State-of-the-art research facilities. An acclaimed six-college system. A tradition of innovation. All make up the University of California, San Diego.
again, very nice introduction to the school. Lastly let's look at UCLAs:
The challenges and rewards of a UCLA education attract students with exceptional levels of academic preparation and intense interests in intellectual and personal growth.
uh, this intro sucks pretty hard compared to the other too. Berkeley gets called a leading academic institution, UCSD a 'world-class' university, and UCLA gets...nothing. Why didn't the UofC people give it as awesome of an intro as UCB or UCSD got?

here's the link for anyone who wants to look at other campuses:

University of California - Campuses

LOL!

I doubt anyone bothers to read or look at that thing anyways. UCLA should be cool and have an intro like:

“UCLA. People go here.”

Subtle, yet effective.

It’s because UCLA is not as prestigious as everyone on here makes it out to be. Like I been saying forever now, Berkeley and UCSD are now the top two UCs. UCLA has taken a back seat. That does not mean UCLA is now the new UCR, no. It just means that UCLA has remained stagnate in its progress. Where as, UCSD (and to a greater extent USC) has been making great strides in such a short time frame. So much so that it is on the verge of surpassing UCLA in everything. Now, to be fair, UCLA does offer students a more well-rounded educational experience, because of their D1 sport teams.

UCSD is indeed impressive, but i doubt anyone would actually argue that it’s a better UC than UCLA. i’ve only seen one ranking where UCSD was higher than UCLA (and berkeley for that matter.) Every single other one usually lists UCLA as vastly higher (IME, ranging anywhere 5-15 spots away; this is compared to 1-5 that usually seperate UCLA and berkeley; LA and berks differ by 1 rank in best public schools, 3 ranks in best national schools, etc)

UCLA and Berkeley also follow similar trends. both of their admitted freshman have really similar GPA (they differ by like 20 points in berkeley’s favor, but it should also be noted that UCLA gets like 8000 more applicants than berkeley.) they also both only admitted around 75% californians this time around (compared to the usual 90%) and i expect this number to jump more as they’re both in need for money.

it shall be interesting to see whether berkeley can remain the top UC. UCSD is up and coming, but it still isn’t in the same rank as LA or Berkeley. I do expect berkeley to pass LA but, of course i’m biased :p

Yes, UCSD’s introduction is an amazing display of 8 fragment sentences, it is so fantastic.

If it makes you feel any better, I think we have the best looking “schedule of classes” website. lolz

bayboi, I agree with everything you said. I must confess I regret going to UCLA. All of my professors were replaced this year with foreign exchange PHD students who barely speak English. Also, the administration announced UCLA was going to have an acceptance rate of 70% and everybody would get accepted as long as they submitted a picture in their application and look cute.

What a tragedy UCLA has become. We are now USC, sigh.

Don’t feed the ■■■■■■ guys.

Don’t listen to BayBoi: he seems to have made it a mission to insult UCLA’s reputation. He does this in numerous posts…just look through his history. Go away BayBoi, we don’t like you in this forum.

Anyways, I agree…I wanted to see UCLA hyped up a bit more on that page.

If you’re so upset over it, then I suggest you write up different introductions for UCLA, post it up on CC, and have everyone who cares send it as an email to the webmaster or someone with the authority to change it. It’s winter break, so why not?

I’ll start:

“Within the hustle-bustle of a great metropolis and close to the warm beaches of Santa Monica lies one of the ____ academic institutions in the ____.”

Idk, I’m not an English major.

I still don’t see what’s wrong with my suggestion. Maybe we can add a bit to spice it up.

UCLA. People Go Here. And They Do Things. Here, Now, UCLA. Champions Made Here.

Edit** This if OT, but a Trojan friend of mine actually made a joke on UCLA’s motto that even I found it funny. Given UCLA’s craptastic football success, my friend said UCLA should change their motto to “Champions Made Near Here” lol  Messed up.

I love all this attention. God, you bear cubs are E-A-S-Y!

Bruin does not mean bear cub.

^What’d you know, bruin doesn’t mean a young bear. I wonder where I read that it meant young bear off of…

Anyways, I like the mascot “Bruins” better than “Bears”. “Bears” is crazy generic (and I think Berkeley realizes this).

I agree with you sentiment. Bruin sounds badass. Bear just sounds…vague. However, the word “Berkeley” sounds pretty cool. I always liked that name.
