Hey everybody- I was just wondering opinions as to which program seems like a better option for me. I applied to a couple of BA/MD programs and got into BU and UConn, the two that I was aiming for. I only expected to get into one, if either of them, but now that I've got into both, I have to make a choice.

I'm leaning right now toward UConn's program, mainly because its med school is I think as good as BU's, and it costs 40% of BU's program. (BU Undergrad/Med = 50K (incl. everything)/ ~45K (incl. everything) vs. UConn = 20K (incl. everything)/ 25-30 K (incl. everything). I'm a out of stater from Massachusetts, but I can qualify as an instate resident after my undergrad to qualify for the instate tuition of the med school.

Does anybody have any thoughts?

personally, I would go for UConn's program because of the money. unless your parents are extremely well off and the extra money isn't that big of a difference, you probably won't regret going to UConn. if your parents are well off, maybe the extra money is worth it to go to a better med school... it's for you to decide.

also, i personally prefer living a bit closer to home, but some people do not like that, so that's for you to decide as well.

to top it off, UConn has a great sports scene (HUSKIES!), especially with basketball if that's your cup of tea. BU has a much smaller sports scene, except for hockey (they're currently rankied #1)

oh and BU doesn't have instate/outstate cost differences. it's a private school so the price is the same no matter where you reside.

pianoman, what are your stats. Im very interested in applying for BU next year. Also for BU, when is the application date?

Yeah, can you post your stats? I’m really interested in the UConn CPiM next year.

I go to BU Academy, where I take classes at BU- that gave me a big lift for the BU program (I took a physics class this and last semester that is actually part of the curriculum for SMED students).
If you’re still interested in my stats, here they are:
SAT:2210, 770M 720R 720W
SAT II: 800 Latin 720 Math IIC 700 Chem
GPA (incl. first semester senior year): I would safely say 3.6-3.7
My GPA from my BU Classes was like a 3.8
Senior Courses: Physics, 3rd Sem. French, Calc II, Roman History, Discrete Math at BU
Existentialism, NonFiction Essay Writing, and a senior paper about a Beethoven piano sonata are the classes I took at my actual high school

In my free time, I play piano, soccer, and I volunteer. I’ve done two different kinds of volunteering: some in political campaigns and some in hospitals and health related places (for instance, I helped out at a clinic near my house that is dedicated to giving as much help to the homeless as its budget permits). I’ve played piano for around 9-10 years, and I captained my school soccer team and play with a club team outside of school.
I’m also a co-president of my school’s Model UN club, a peer advisor, and a sc representative.

Can someone give me advice about either of these programs?

I’d probably go to the UConn program, due to the cost issue. BU’s a private school, and as such, it would be pricier. That’s mostly an assumption though.

Congratulations on both, dude!
