So, my situation is a bit of a unique one. I'm just in the home stretch of my senior year, and I know it must seem a little late to be looking at colleges. I already went through a preliminary round of applications in the fall but since then I have decided that I will not be attending college in the fall, but rather I will be going to China for 5 months to volunteer in an orphanage through a volunteer organization. With that in mind, my priorities have changed a bit and I am aiming to attend UCONN with instate tuition costs. My parents have enough money to pay for all four years instate and therefore I would graduate debt free. In terms of all of my admissions prospects, my main problem is my EXTREMELY low gpa; a 2.8
This is mostly due to the terrible junior year I had. My freshman gpa was a 3.5 and my sophomore, a 3.0. But during my junior year, my friend was killed in a car accident. I became very depressed and my school forced me to go to an inpatient hospital program for around two months. By the time I got back to school, I had very little time to make up the work, and I was still pretty unstable, so I ended with a 1.7.
I took my SATs sophomore year and got a 1750, but I'm taking them again before the fall deadline. I've taken full practice tests and scored a 2100.
In terms of extra curricular, I am a member of the school marching and advanced concert band and I am in a very prestigious youth orchestra in my area. I have really good recommendations from my teachers and a very good essay that I personally received feedback from several admissions counselor that I sent it to.
So, I ask you, what are my chances at getting into UCONN?
