I'm a Connecticut resident and I'm trying to decide between going to either Uconn or Umass Amherst. At uconn I would be a pre-pharmacy major (I intend to switch to computer science) and at Umass I would be a Japanese major. I would like to double major in Japanese and Computer science at Umass, however being OOS the COA would be much higher than Uconn.

Some pros and cons of going to Umass

Pros:
Good computer science program (I'm don't think Uconn has a very notable program)
Japanese major (Uconn doesn't offer this)
Study aboard
I prefer the environment
5 college consortium

Cons:
OOS tuition much higher, especially since I want to double major

Please give me your feedback. I'm especially interested in the opinions of Connecticut residents. If i have any wrong information please correct me. Thank you!

I will also be at the honors college in umass

My family is from Connecticut and I personally loved UCONN when I visited it, idk if you care about athletics but you would be a bigger name school from that standpoint as well. Which do you prefer. If cost is a big issue pick UCONN

How much higher would tuition be?
Consideing UConn doesn’t have your major, it’d make it a second choice… and UMass Honors is a good option, but not if it means getting into debt (above the federal loan amount, which is the reasonable amount of debt you can take on.)

you should check out the new england regional student program. <a href=“New England Regional Student Program | University Registrar”>https://www.umass.edu/registrar/students/policies-and-practices/new-england-regional-student-program
you can attend umass as a japanese major for a much lower cost since ct does not offer the major.
