I thought I would get notified in my personal email account that a status change had taken place and to then check the portal, but I didn’t. I checked the portal so the update was sometime during the day yesterday.
Out of state, biological sciences. I spoke to the admissions office on Monday to see if I switched to undeclared if that would help and was told that the major didn’t make a difference for getting off the waitlist.
I’ve been checking portal all day long…nothing yet. I remember that when they originally notified everyone it was on a Saturday afternoon, so I am hoping we find out later tonight or maybe tomorrow afternoon. I guess it could go as late as Wednesday, as all along we were informed that it would be by 6/1. PLEASE UPDATE IF YOU’VE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF OR A CLASSMATE GETTING OFF WAITLIST and WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE TAKING THE SPOT OR TURNING IT DOWN.
My son is in state and got notified yesterday—first by email and then logged into the portal. He was NOT accepted to Storrs so is going to UMass Amherst - College of Engineering… It’s all OK…he can always transfer next year… Good luck to all!
@Jandandy Thank you for sharing. Your son has a good option in UMASS Amherst College of Engineering. I know some kids with great stats that were rejected there or admitted but not into the College of Engineering, as they’d hoped… It’s a prestigious engineering school, so congrats on that. This said, trust me that I know from your posts that it’s a little tougher to not go where your heart and hope lies. As you said, he can transfer next year if his heart is still set in that direction. I do know several who went to UMASS and they strongly suggest Northeast for his dorm, grab a roomie there quick if you can, and do not stay in Southwest if avoidable, according to two recent male grads I know. Neither are angels, but they say Southeast is a little too wild. Plus lots of Engineering types stay in Northeast, so more in common. You are a good person and parent to support your son and to care so much.
Thanks for the great tips! It is much appreciated. Did you find out your status yet?
@Jandandy No- no email and no change to portal. I suspect there will be more notifications Tuesday after the holiday, and possibly Wednesday. After that, maybe another round be end of week if there are students that have already decided to stay put at whomever they committed to on 5/1.
@ Peachlovejoy- How much time were you given to decide? Did they say 48 hours or a week or what? I’m just trying to figure out if there might be another round late next week for those that decide to not accept the waitlist spot. It would seem a few more spots might open up. So how long did they give you to respond with your decision?
Keep us posted. Best of luck!
No deadline listed but got the paperwork in the mail today and deposit is needed to sign up for one of the mandatory orientation sessions that goes through July.
Wish for the best for all if you who are still waiting.
ALL- I spoke to UConn Admissions today and they said they did let some people know late last week, (as we all know from some of the posts on here), but that they would continue to let us know today, tomorrow, and throughout the week. My graduation is Friday, so I really hope to know today. I bought a UCONN tie for Dad and the whole bit awhile back. I am hoping he can wear it to my graduation…totally wishful thinking! This is soo hard to wait, but worth it in the end if we all get in! Keep checking your email and the portal. He said we’d get an email and our portal would be updated. Someone posted earlier that they never got an email, just a portal change, so keep checking the portal. PLEEASE post the second you find out if/if not you got in, in state or out of state, which major, and how/when you heard. Also, please post if you know of any of your friends/classmates getting in and when.
Just a correction to a previous post. Deposit is due within 2 weeks of date on acceptance letter if admitted after May 1.
Just a correction on an earlier post. The deadline for the deposit is 2 weeks after the date on the acceptance letter, if the letter was received after May 1.
Just found out yesterday that son did not get in. He is very disappointed as he gave his all, and so very sincerely wanted to go there. We did sooo many college tours, and not one lit him up like UCONN. He absolutely fell in love with the place, worked sooo hard to get in, etc. He got into Connecticut College, which is very selective, so we really held out hope all this time. Our UCONN representative was great all along and really seemed to try to advocate for him to get off the list, but it didn’t work out. I’ve heard it’s very hard to get in there as an out of state student, and with it being a bubble year for applicants maybe it was just too hard this time. I am so proud of my son for never giving up. I gave him so many outs along the way, and every single time he doubled down on wanting to do everything he could to get into UCONN. I am very sad for him, but I am obviously doing nothing but spinning it all positive for him. I am the Vice President of a technology company and thus hire a lot of people for very lucrative positions and I know it really doesn’t matter where you go to school- it’s all about who you are as an individual, how hard you work and the ‘product’ you personally deliver. I’ve hired people from MIT, Wharton, Dayton, Univ of FL, Marquette, UNH, Stanford, Plymouth State, Univ of West VA, Oklahoma State, etc, etc, and it doesn’t indicate much of anything at all. There are good, bright people to be found from all schools. It’s just hard as a parent to see someone work so hard, wait 3 1/2 months to hear and then not get in. I wanted the ‘Hollywood Ending’ for him, and it didn’t happen. I know he will be fine, it’s just hard to see the disappointment in his eyes right now. But I know my son and it will soon be quickly replaced by resiliency and a smile. He is a great kid. Can he transfer in next year, sure, but I don’t want to push that right now. If he comes to me next Spring and wants to do so, I will absolutely support that 110%. Thanks to all of you that communicated along the way. Ironically one of my employees just passed away tragically, and we are all doing a Go Fund Me to help his son attend his Senior year at UCONN. I want his son to get his dream of a UCONN diploma.
I’m so sorry. I was truly rooting for you and waiting to hear from you! To be honest he can transfer as early as for Spring 2017. I agree kids can prosper coming from almost any school…and hopefully he will be happy at CC. His happiness is all that really matters. I understand it was a very tough year.
@becautious, I’m upset to hear this, I was hoping for a different outcome for your son. I heard also that it was a very tough year to get in. Connecticut College is a great school, I hope he loves it. but if not, there is always the transfer option like you said. I hope to get the chance to meet you both in the future
Hello
I just found this post. I’ve been praying that your son would get in but as a mom who’s been through this I have to say that there is a plan. My oldest was deferred then wait listed then finally not accepted to Boston College. Talk about disappointed!!
In the meantime St Joseph’s in Phillie called her and offered her Honors Program with a lot of money. She went there. Met her best friends for life (has been a bridesmaid twice so far) and was prepared for grad school right away. She went to UCONN and got her doctorate
She is now living and working in Boston
SJU was the perfect school for her. We just didn’t realize it back then.
Congratulations on going to Connecticut College. It’s an excellent school.
