***UCR CLASS OF 2021 DISCUSSION THREAD***

Yep, still waiting

@ImJustaPerson I just visited yesterday and tbh I really like it there. I donā€™t really see why thereā€™s so much negative stigma. And itā€™s in the UC system so we all get the same education

Still at ā€œYour application is currently being considered for an admission decisionā€

is there a UCR group me?

@nylkoorb , Iā€™m glad you posted that. Often stigma starts for silly, invalid reasons. I think itā€™s possible, though, that it just got the reputation because, prior to UCM, it was the least selective of the UCā€™s. But who cares?!!?!? As you say, itā€™s still a UC! And now, as weā€™re seeing, the UCā€™s are all very selective, and so UCR will have a pretty high caliber student body. And, ya know, Iā€™m not sure going to school with the tippy top students is for everyone anyway. I know, for example, while my kid is intelligent, and works hard in school, he values balance, and plays sports, and goes to the beach, and hangs with friends. Heā€™d be fun to go to school with, and would contribute well to classes. (And Iā€™m not saying that the other kids wouldnā€™t also be fun; just saying that kids with less than 4.2 GPAā€™s can still wonderfully enrich a campus.) Finally, in SoCal, Riverside, and other parts of ā€œThe Inland Empire,ā€ have a reputation to Coastal and LA folk - hot and maybe a little red neck, and/or conservative. But, even if thereā€™s some truth to the reputation, it doesnā€™t mean it would apply to the university or the area around the university, There are plenty of great, vibrant schools in areas that are otherwise not perfect.

Now, could they put out ALL the decisions already?!!?!?!?!

So I got accepted into UCR a week ago for BioEngineering(Yay but IDK). Stats for me goes as

UC GPA: 3.68
EC: Alot and I mean alot (Worked under Congresswomen Barbara Lee)

But IM writting because Im sort of depressed. I got into CSU EB and Waitlisted for nursing at USF but i got declined to everything else. I cant decide on what I want tbh. I love the bay area but I want to get away from my family (I still love them tho). I cant decide. UCR or I go to CSU EB. This might be the wrong thread but I dont know anymore. Any advice? I heard UCR is horrible but Im not judging UCR by online reviews. I guess im just confused and IDK what to do. Any advice? Tips? Thank you so much.

A couple questions, @AhmadSultan : Do you know what you want to do? Do you want to be a nurse? If so, does Bioengineering get you there? If not, does UCR have a nursing program? If so, could you switch into it down the road? Have you visited UCR? Where have you seen that UCR is horrible? If you went to EB or SF could you live on campus, away from home? Would that be worth it, in that youā€™d be spending a lot of money and not getting the live in another place experience. What financial considerations exist? Would you have to borrow money to go to one of the UCā€™s?

Reply, and Iā€™d be glad to share more thoughts, for whatever that would be worth.

@AhmadSultan take a virtual tour of UCR and see it for yourself. Get some unbiased opinions of both schools. Compare the climate, the campus culture, and the vibe of the students who go there. UCRā€™s campus was actually very beautiful in my opinion, because I really wasnā€™t expecting much but tried to keep an open mind, and it helped a lot. Block out any opinions that are trying to pursuade you one way or another and decide for yourself. I donā€™t know anything about East Bay, but look up and compare the specific programs youā€™re interested in at both schools as well. Both are good schools, donā€™t let anyone tell you otherwise! The CSU and UC systems are AMAZING public university systems. Just make sure the decision you make is the one that benefits you the best, and will make you happiest in the future

UCR tweeted that myUCR is live but thereā€™s still nothing???

Anyone in for Anthropology B.S.?

Still waiting

Anyone going to Highlander day on April 8th?

Also, has anyone else SIRā€™d at UCR ? I am having issues with my NetID, and the UCR site is refusing to let me sign up for orientation/ begin reserving housing for next year. Im not sure who to specifically contact, but I think it has to do with their system ā€œproblemsā€ againā€¦

@nylkoorb is a diploma from UCR any different to employers from say UCD?

@ImJustaPerson I suppose getting a UC Degree itself is already a plus imo. I think employers will mostly care about your performance in college, and the skills you can bring to the table rather than basing their selectivity solely on where someone chose to attend.

@WongIV yeah, Iā€™m having the same problem. I may just call later on and ask them about it. And yes, Iā€™m going to Highlander day!

@WongIV How come students only care about rankings and selectivity of a college, if performance in college is all that matters?

Anybody else still waiting for a decision?
