Hey I'm a incoming Freshman and Undeclared, I'm leaning towards the media and cultural studies program (film) or business admin...I was wondering is the film program good and if i majored in it would I be able to get a job? Thanks!

The Media and Cultural Studies department and its Film and Visual Culture (FVC) program are fairly new, but they are growing very quickly and strongly because it is becoming a popular major (I think ~250 students).

I think the biggest misconception about FVC is that it places primary emphasis on the history and theory of film studies with a secondary focus on production.

However, there are three tracks within FVC that one can follow:
Track 1: Film and Visual Media
Track 2: Film, Literature, Culture
Track 3: Ethnography, Documentary and Visual Culture

These tracks differ slightly in required classes.

I know everyone says this, but the job is really up to you and your major doesn’t matter too much (unless it’s engineering or another field with a very strong necessity for specific training/education), especially if it’s a humanities major. Experience really counts. My cousin majored in Ethnic Studies and now she does marketing.

One of my majors is FVC and I landed an internship at the UCR/California Museum of Photography.
