UCR is going places...

Coastal regions have already surpassed what people should be able to afford, this entire region has surpassed that 3 years ago. What growth does in an area, at least what i believe it would do would bring more business resources to UCR, just as the biotech community in Irvine has done for UCI. Now this isnt the only reason i think growth will help, but its the most i feel like writing while i sit on my foot and feel it fall asleep .Will it surpass any other UCs, really...who cares. I believe UCR has doubled its school population in the last 8-10 years. It has around 750 million dollars in construction fees going on which adds to 2.5 million square feet of space, not only for students, but for the bickering professors. Many of these projects have between 5-10 million from alumni donations. This a great thing considering past attempts for donations have been dismal.

Eng program i cannot comment on, but they are heavily investing in the business program if you consider the faculty that they are bringing in from columbia, vanderbilt, RPI, etc

You said

Growth first has to be maxed in California's coastal regions before it begins to seep into the inland areas.

As far as I can tell the inland regions are growing, and a ton- so are you saying growth is 'maxed' in the coastal regions already?

Clearly it's not maxed in the coastal areas, but it's approaching something to that effect. There's only so much more space left, and we probably won't see places like Los Angeles come up with many new housing developments or communities. To keep that momentum that the previous years have seen (housing boom and such), developers are beginning to tap the Inland Empire as growth reaches that carrying capacity in the coastal counties and consequentially slows down. By the time UCR comes out with its medical school, that, coupled with a more established surrounding, should be enough to propel it significantly higher in national, and potentially UC, rankings.

UCR will always be the bastard child of the UC system. It will Never NEVER be a better school than UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, or UCSB. Even UCM might beat it later on(UCM has potential). Riverside is just crap, sure its a University of California but it has a lackluster campus as well as lame surroundings which will always make it a last choice for most top students. Academically, there are better alternatives to this mediocre school. Even if California's population was to quadruple, UCR will still be last or near to last in the UC system. Population increases do not necessarily change college rankings but it simply allows for the creation of new lower level colleges. So therefore, UCR will still be the same ranking now but the number of colleges in ranking list would just be increased as new colleges are created. UCR already proved that it doesn't have what it takes to be a top college. That's my 2 cents.

This post is @ ^Jasonlee^

First of all.... what you say may have some wisdom behind it; however, lets face it, you're not God and you dont know for sure the fate of UCR.

Second of all, the reason why UCR is under-ranked is not because of its "lame surroundings" and because there are "better academic options" other than UCR. It is MAINLY BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU belittle such a potential campus...its PEOPLE LIKE YOU who call it the "bastard child" of UCR, and PEOPLE LIKE YOU who take the BLUE PILL as MORPHEUS SAID...and wake up in your little apartment room and will "NEVER EVER" as you said...experience the RSIDE experience.

What the surroundings and amount of people around a college campus does not define its potential.

It's the people who choose to take the journey and make it great. The people who choose to go to this school and contribute to the University.

THE PEOPLE DEFINE THE UNIVERSITY.

The only reason why our ranking is low is because potentially smart and knowledged students are led away from this nice campus because of ongoing tradition and student created stereotypes of which campus's give u 6 figure jobs and which campus's dont.

THE ONLY THING SOMEONE LIKE YOU need to understand is.... wherever you are going to college.....

YOUR COLLEGE WILL NEVER ..and I say NEVER... have the diversity that UCR has...because it accepts ALL ....knowledged....under-knowledged.....and all minorities, which your college doesn't.

Most Universities fail to understand that not all minority groups have kids who have the academic opportunities at high school, whereas UCR provides that chance for us.

A Side note...

HELLLL..

If you're not into UCR..and you think its a bastard child of the UC system...

why did u even bother to look at this UCR forum to post?

Why did u even bother to comment on the "bastard child UC system"

And did it even strike you...that you are hurting the morale of incoming freshman to a humble campus?

THINK BEFORE YOU POST

You may have taken the blue pill.... you probably didnt even go to college here AT ALL...yet u can make all those accusations...you can sleep comfortably in your bed...never knowing how it was like at UCR....

but for me....

I CHOOSE THE RED PILL

And ill judge for myself...and see how far the rabbit hole goes.

Anyone with me? ;]

Not with you, but its nice to see someone stand up for their school. Trolls shouldn't be fed, but I'm glad someone stood up to the stereotype for once.

Amen brutha, amen

you seem to really like the matrix.

lol.....its a good movie.....

but i just used it only because it was perfect for the situation.

People go on bashing people, places, things, entities and whatnot....just based on hearsay..never having gone through the whole shebang..themselves...

I shall see the truth for myself

I think UCR has potential looking at their majors list. Some are coupled with Administrative Studies and this is pretty unique. I, for one, am interested in their Art History/Administrative Studies program because it works well with what I'm doing now which is owning a business that requires an artistic approach. I think this aspect of Riverside will allow some to create a business because they can always have the option of doing something else since it's pretty much two majors in one. I got accepted into UCR for the winter quarter, but I'm still waiting for the other UC's to reply before I make a decision. I will have to visit the campus too which is a pain since it's a 6~7 hours drive from where I am. T__T

@SunnyPhan: It's cool that you're sticking up for your college. Don't let them get to you though because that's what they intended to do. They really are only going by what they heard and it's sad that they are being blinded by it. Best wishes to you in Riverside. ^^ By the way, I hope you're not including all three when you said Matrix is a good movie. I can understand the first one, but the last two? O.o''

LOL nahhh... I actually never watched the sequels....

Just the first one itself was good enough.

The Archetypal hero and the allusions, symbols, and imagery were very rich throughout the movie.

It was fast action packed and deep in other aspects, but ya im not including the other sequels hahahaha
