UCR Questions

I just have a few questions about UCR and college in general

I was wondering if you edit your housing contract does it change how you're placed in the dorms? I submitted my housing contract pretty early on April 3rd but since I edited it does it jeopardize my chances of getting there and into a triple because I really want a double..

I'm currently in CHASS but I was wondering can you minor in something that is in CNAS? How is that done?

I want to take a language that I didn't take in high school my freshman year and I was wondering what classes there are if I want to learn a new language?

What kinds of sports are there at UCR besides the normal baseball, basketball, or volleyball? I love water sports and I was on a Dragonboat team in high school so I was wondering..

I live in San Francisco and moving down to Riverside is a huge change.. Is it true you can wear flipflops pretty much everyday and what kinds of things are there to do on the weekends?

Thanks for all the help :3

i am a transfer student starting this fall…

i am also in chass and i think you can take a cnas minor, as ive looked into it there are just a few extra things you need to do.

the fall schedule is up and you can see what languages will be offered. [UC Riverside - Schedule of Classes](http://student08.ucr.edu/em/classes/ScheduleNew/Index.aspx)

i live in los angeles, and riverside will be a huge change for me, so coming from sf it will def be a change for you. riverside is hot all the time barely below 80s. as far as ive heard. the nights are cold though cus its a desert climate. and in los angeles i am used to it switching 20-40 degrees from day to night.

Hi, davesprite and kyokoloco. Welcome to UCR :)

Unless you edited your housing contract extensively, a minor edit shouldn’t influence your contract. If you’re concerned, you can contact UCR Housing directly by calling 951-827-6350 or emailing housinginfo [at] ucr [dot] edu.

Yup, you can minor between colleges. You can talk to your academic adviser about it some more once school starts, but basically you go to the academic department you want to minor in, meet with an adviser, and request their signature on a Request to Declare a Minor form (they usually have these in their offices). Then, you go to submit the form at the front desk of the college you’re minoring in. So, if you’re a Biology (in CNAS) major but you want to minor in English (in CHASS), you’d meet with an English adviser, sign a paper, and then take that paper to the Student Affairs office of CHASS. That might sound confusing, but you can read more about the process here: [UCR: CHASS Student Academic Affairs](http://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/undeclared_program/major_declaration/minor.html)

There are lots of languages offered at UCR! We offer Spanish, German, Latin, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, and that’s all that comes to mind right now. You can check them out here: [UC Riverside - Schedule of Classes](<a href=“Select a Term”>http://classes.ucr.edu/) Go to “Browse” and then you can scroll through the subjects in the “Subject Area” drop-down box.

Here’s the UCR Athletics homepage: [University of California Riverside Athletics](http://gohighlanders.com/)
Intramural sports: basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, and softball.
Club sports: Rugby, soccer, surfing, karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kendo, volleyball, wrestling, and few others.

You can explore other competitive teams at the Student Org Network page here: [Student Organization Network Home Page](http://vcsaweb.ucr.edu/StudentOrgNetwork)

It’s also relatively easy to start your own club/organization. If you’re interested in water sports, we’re getting an Olympic-sized pool at the Student Recreation Center in Winter 2013, so you’ll be able to start/participate whatever water sport you want :D

Yes, you can pretty much wear flip flops every day besides the winter months. It’s kind of crazy. It rarely rains in Riverside and daytime weather is generally awesome, except in the summer when the temperature soars to holy-crap-I’m-gonna-melt heat. On the weekends, there are events on campus and in Downtown Riverside. You can view campus events here: [Student Organization Network Home Page](http://vcsaweb.ucr.edu/StudentOrgNetwork). For off-campus events, I follow TodayinRiverside and the LA Times on Facebook for event info. LA is just a drive away, so if you have a car, you’re pretty centrally located to whatever you might want to do.
