UCR to UCLA

Hi, I’m an incoming freshman to UC Riverside. I am going to be majoring in biology and am planning to head into med school post-grad. With decent AP credits from high school, I’m wondering what it would take for me to transfer to UCLA after sophomore year. Thanks in advance! (If possible, what would it take to transfer to UCLA after one year with good high school grades?)

UC to UC is difficult. They are basically the last pick of the litter for transfers but it is not impossible. My advice to you is that you should go to a JC for a couple of years and then make the transfer. You’ll not only save a quite of money but you will also have a better chance of getting in.

High school grades are irrelevant for a transfer student. The rules about how many units you need to have, which classes you must take, etc. are all well described on the UCLA admissions website. And you can also find the average GPA range of transferring minutes

UC Transfer GPA by Major and Campus. Updated 2019 data is usually available after the start of 2020.

Actually UC-UC is not the bottom of the list. Many transfer UC-UC all the time, even to Berkeley. In fact, lucky for you, UCLA is the one UC that states it puts equal priority on CCC and other UC transfers. Go to assist.org, choose any CCC and try to match the courses needed for your chosen major. Also, try and get your Letter of Reciprocity from UCR, which is verification of completion of UCR’s gen ed path.
