My kid got in UCR and Cal Poly for pre-med. She plans to select CalPoly. Is it a good decision ? Some are advising UC is good when compare to state school.
What’s her major at each school?
Medical school course requirements will be competitive at all the UC’s and Cal states but UCR does have the advantage of a Medical school and an Early Assurance program if she is interested that Cal Poly does not offer.
Also does her major give her a backup plan if Medical school does not happen?
She has gotten Neuro Science in UCR, Public Health in Cal Poly.
Both major does not have backup plan. But she says she can do dual major in Cal Poly. Is it correct ?
Cal Poly! Congrats
She can double major at both schools but depending upon the other major she wants to pursue, it could add extra time and costs to her education.
As a “Pre-Med” student, she wants to attend a school where she has the best chance for a High GPA, access to Medically related EC’s , good Pre-med Advising and affordable since Medical school is expensive.
I would look at the courses she needs to take for both majors, how much overlap with the Medical school requirements and also check out the Pre-med advising centers at each school.
If Medical school does not happen, then either major Public Health or Neuroscience will require graduate school for an eventual career in these fields.
@Gumbymom : Thank you for the reply. She is debating on whether take a chance in Cal Poly and take additional pre required courses for Medical. Some people are encouraging to go for UCR, but she is not favoring that.
She needs to go to a school where she will be happy along with good academics. No bad choice between the 2 schools.
@Gumbymom : Thank you
Great news that my daughter got off from waitlist and accepted in UC Irvine which is her top choice.
