So I have 1400 SAT 21 ACT and 3.1 GPA
I go to a very completive high school in California. One of the best in US
I am very active in school clubs and have received awards such as Eagle Scout
I’m super nervous I won’t get accepted into ANY of the colleges and I wasted my parents hard earned money on me…
Can anyone talk some sense into me?
What is your CSU GPA and intended major? Also calculate your Eligiblity index for the Cal States:
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT CR+ Math) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite)
Since you go to a competitive HS, I can understand the lower GPA, but your test scores are also below the 25th percentile for most of the schools you applied. How did you decide on this list? I would have included some good safeties such as CSU Stanislaus, Monterey, Channel Islands or San Marcos. Your EC’s will have really no impact on your application for the Cal states since they are about the numbers. Have you taken AP/IB or Honors courses?
Your EC’s may give you a boost to make UCR a High Match. Your list has too many reaches. Did you check out the Freshman profiles for these schools before applying? I hope you will not get shut out and I wish you Good Luck.

With your CSU/UC GPA of 3.3, I would say that UCM/SFSU and SJSU (unless your a CS major) would be Matches, UCR would be a High Match and the rest would be Low Reach to Reach. I would love to proven wrong so post your acceptances once they start rolling in…

I also made these choices on the ECs I have and the large amount of time I devote to them.
I also have one of those “sob stories” that people call them
But I still do
I have to take care of my Mom Monday - Friday like giving medicine driving to hospitals etc
I also work to pay medical bills
So I figured that I could take a gamble
Well, I feel for your situation but with Cal States there is no way to explain your situation since essays are not part of the application which is a problem for you. When it comes to EC’s and your essays, it can only be determined by admissions and I wish you the best of luck. Like I said, I hope to be proven wrong and you end up having many good choices for next year.

At one of the best HS’s in US the counselors should be able to give you a good idea of where you are likely to be admitted.
With the combination of public school, 3,000 or so students and only 4 counselors. (lack of funding)
They don’t nearly devote enough time for the students… :-/
Unfortunately.
Looks like you applied to the most impacted CSUs. They also admit by major, so standards are higher for more popular majors. You would be auto admit for non impacted majors at non impacted campuses.
Your safety is to start at a community college, right?
I already got accepted to SFSU
But I really don’t want to go to CC. I didn’t like the campus. And the program.
Just wasn’t for me. Plus it’s accreditation is in jeopardy currently.
Ok, then SFSU is a safety if you can afford it, right? So why are you worried about getting shut out?
B/C I’m nervous I’ll only get 1/10 I applied to. I would prefer having options. Both UCs and CSUs not in the Bay Area.
I would also like to have a mental idea on those choices as well.
Plus to hear different people’s opinions.
And to be honest. One of my friends got her admission from UCR today.
I didn’t know they came out this early. And I got nervous that I wouldn’t get into UCR because I didn’t hear on the same day as her.

I would think that UC Merced would accept you.
What is your budget? How much will your parents pay each year?
Not much. I got 25-30k savings. Plus my job offers to pay for some of my education.
UCM may be possible since they’ll take your essays/story into account.
You could try and throw a couple private schools into the mix: Whittier, URedlands, St Mary’s of California?
Southern Oregon U would be a safety.

To be honest, I feel horrible at the moment.
I have the funny feeling you go to my high school haha. As we are one of the most competitive in the nation and we only have about 4 counselors haha. But yeah, just relax. Worrying won’t get you anywhere. I too am waiting on decisions from UCs. You can’t do anything about it. Just wait and let it workout for itself. Goodluck my friend
