Rank all University of California schools, and I'm talking about all not just the elite universities.
Also make a seperate rank of each university for medicine.
What is your opinion of each UC's.
If any California State Universities come between the ranking of UC's feel free to list them as well.

1-UCB
2-UCLA
3-UCSD
4,5,6 (Mid tiers) UCI, UCSB, UCD
7-UCSC
8-UCR-
9-UCM

Just in general: Berk, UCLA, UC San Diego, Davis, UC Santa Barbara, Irvine, Santa Cruz, Riverside, Merced. Don’t even consider SC, Merced, or Riverside (and probably not SB) for any science type of major.

UCLA is obviously amazing. The most name recognition internationally, and across the US probably, unless you’re interested in poly sci or engineering, in which case, Berkeley is better. They have similar atmosphere, Berkeley is much more competitive.

UC Davis and UC SD especially have excellent biosci programs with lots of research available for undergrads. The feel of these school, and Cal Poly SLO too, is much more relaxed, and kind of liberal arts midwestern smaller school too.

UCSC…when i visited i felt like i was going to summer camp. Santa Cruz is a cool place, but not to study anything seriously.

^ Hey, I have to correct u

UCSB is good for science related

you smoking crack?

And UCR is well-recognized for their spider research and orange research too (which is bio)

don’t dis man

1.UCSC is very well known for their physics and astrophysics programs, as well as their marine biology program. Just because you felt like you were at summer camp on their campus doesn’t mean that they don’t have good programs.

UCSB doesn’t have the strongest biological sciences but they have excellent programs for hard sciences…

UCR has the UCR-UCLA Haider program…which is world renowned

Aside from engineering, Cal Poly SLO is weaker than any UC. It is a Cal State school, therefore it is too small for any serious research and does not get the same funding that a UC school would get.

Berkeley has the highest international name recognition and ranking of any public school in this country. UCLA is very good, Berkeley is better. Berkeley also has a better rep across the U.S. I’m thinking you live in SoCal.

gotta disagree with dashgirl. Berkeley is on the periodic table of elements – it has the most recognition worldwide. UCLA is also known for sports.

UCLA-Haider program is barely known in California, and only by the HS premeds. hahahahahahaha

SLO also has excellent Architecture and ag-sci programs.

Med Schools:

UCSF

UCLA

UCSD

Davis, Irvine

UCSB has a pretty good engineering program

UC Berkeley - Good for pretty much anything as every department is well established, has probably the most name recognition among academic circles.

UCLA - Similar to Berkeley, it’s pretty good in every area. For hard sciences/engineering/business, Berkeley is probably better; other than that, I don’t know if there’s much of a difference. Probably best known for sports given it’s history of championships.

UCSD - Also a very good school, but I feel like it’s overshadowed by UCLA and UC Berkeley. A beast in it’s own right in sciences (especially biomedical/bioengineering type topics)
4,5,6 3-way tie between UCI,UCD, UCSB - All around decent schools, don’t know much about individual departments except that UCD excels in agricultural sciences and has a pretty good medical school. I know UCSB has well known chemical engineering/materials science departments.

UCSC - Safety school for most people applying to the “upper” UCs. Apparently has a good astrophysics department.

UCR - See UCM, minus the new part.

UCM - Too new to say anything significant about it, pretty much a safety school for people wanting to get into any UCs.

=)

UCD is good in vet school not med schhool

Oh wow, didn’t even recognized my thread by the title.

Actually I’m no longer persuing a career in the medical field. My prospective majors are: Economics and ( one of): political science, international relations/ studies, __________. So basically the social sciences. Ranking of UC’s base off the social sciences would be very helpful. Thanks.

UCLA is probably the strongest in political science.
