would i have a chance if my personal statement was good?

excellent GPA but not so good SAT score. regardless, i’d say they are both matches for you. you should be able to get in unless you have chosen highly competitive majors.

Sorry for all the confusion. The average UC GPA at UCSB and UCI is about 4 and the average SAT is in the 1800s. Your SAT is a little low, but your GPA is about average. Like you said, your ECs are lacking a little bit compared to other students so you have maybe a 30% chance of admittance at those schools.

I’m going to say reach for both, only because the only thing you have going for you is your GPA, and many others with the same GPA as you has a higher SAT and much better ECs.

I can’t agree with danny5. I’d say be hopeful, but prepare for disappointment. A low SAT but high GPA doesn’t look great – it indicates that it is easy to get A’s at your school, or that you are not all that intelligent.
