I would estimate there was around 1,000 people in attendance and all seats were filled.
All students who got the Chancellors invite are admitted. Portal will update with the status change on Mar 19. After the general presentation, there was a panel discussion with staff and students. They answered questions that were submitted by students when registering for the reception
Then there was a college of engineering panel with atudents and staff. The panel accepted questions from the audience.
Did all those who received red ribbons at the reception get a regents package in the mail?
Also attended San Jose reception. Very well run and informative. Chancellor Yang was there. Invited students received a nice UCSB notebook and cute stickers. After the general session, tables were set up by various colleges and campus programs, with helpful info on housing, study abroad, ROTC etc. Was able to pick up sample 4-year courses for CS major and how AP credits are awarded. There are similar sheets for other engineering majors too.
DS was impressed and commented that UCSB seems such a happy place and would love to go. Will be hard to choose between UC campuses, three so far, more to come we hope.
Thanks all for sharing what went down today. Sounds like it was a really nice presentation and that’s great that all who were invited are accepted! Congrats! It’s great that they do this, but it would be even better if they could’ve accommodated everyone who was invited. Being waitlisted for the event and even knowing that it sounds like everyone who was invited is accepted doesn’t make it seem like D19 really is ; ) I guess March 19th will be here soon enough. Again, thanks to all who shared info about today’s events…and CONGRATS once more!
@didwegetin did they say congrats you have been accepted to UCSB like people said they would in previous years event?
@Nhatrang, Yes, they made all the students stand up. Then she congratulated all of them for being admitted to UCSB.
Thanks @Ranipetgirl How many people attended? And which location did you attend? Do you know if everyone who attended planned to enroll at UCSB? Any other information you can share, I would appreciate it!.
@Nhatrang, the ball room was full. I would say 900 to 1000 people. We attended the San Jose one.
I have no clue on how many plan to enroll. The engineering panel talked about the ease of transferring within college of engineering, (easy of done within the first 2 years), study abroad (possible, but need to plan early), internship opportunities(3 career fairs and so possible), difference between comp sci and comp engineering (many software courses for comp sci and many more hardware courses for comp engineering)
Did they mention whether applicants who got the chancellors reception invite and are applying for a major in the college of engineering are guaranteed to get into their major in engineering?
If I recall correctly, the majors were on the name-tags. Can someone confirm?
@lkg4answers I am not sure about regents, but the regular chancellor’s reception kids did not have their majors on their name tags yesterday in SJ.
ucsb is def my top top school but i have a 3.7 and a 1370 and applied as women studies. i know major does not matter but im so sad cause im def not getting in. My essays were very personal and good and i even wrote in the extra space why i didnt recieve as good of grades. but anyways i wish i was getting in so bad!!!
@uwlover267 is the 3.7 weighted or unweighted? Your SAT scores are definitely in the middle 50 range, so I don’t see why you don’t have a shot at all?
@dtrinity2001 my UC gpa is a 3.7. I feel like I need a much higher gpa to be honest
Sounds like the reception was a great time! Sorry to have missed it. Also, did anyone else receive an email from an assistant vice chancellor at UCSB today?
No, no email from UCSB today
Admissions Decisions
We expect admissions decisions to be released:
Freshman applicants: March 19, 2019
Transfer applicants: Beginning March 19, 2019 with additional decisions released on April 1, 15 and 30, 2019.
From the UCSB Office of Admissions website.
that was my alternate major @uwlover267 i honestly don’t think that having a 3.7 is going to be too bad in terms of admittance; your sat isn’t bad so lol – not an expert here though ahahaha
@Gumbymom if we were invited to the chancellors reception can we assume we were admitted and put our stats and everything on the results thread?
