Thank you so much for all the information @ccsfaculty. My d has been accepted into UCSB, physics in L&S. She has applied for CCS as first choice and she is waiting for those results. I understand they are mailed seperately but my D is an international student and we are wondering if we really have to wait for weeks to know. Isn’t there a faster way to communicate to international students?
@Physmom CCS has been pretty responsive to email, if you ask over email they’ll probably tell you their decision.
Thank you. Will try that.
Has anybody heard anything, positive or negative, from CCS so far? I applied as a physics major and I haven’t received anything yet.
@nickyjoe I got an acceptance from them by snail mail and email
Awesome I just got my letter in the mail today. I’m super excited.
Nickyjoe, when did you apply?
I applied in mid December and I think the deadline was late February.
@nickyjoe, thanks!
Hey guys, so I’m deciding between CCS math or UCSD. Does CCS help you get into a good graduate math program? Also, how do the campuses of UCSD and UCSB compare?
@sgtweed CCS definitely helps getting into grad school - I think that’s the expected endpoint.
I didn’t get accepted into CCS for Physics but I’ll be d*mned if I don’t talk to the professors from there on the first week and do everything in my power to get me into there because I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in physics.
Gotcha. I plan to pursue a PhD as well.
Can someone tell me about the CCS Computer Science program? What if I decide not to go to grad school afterwards - will it be difficult for me to find a job?
Contact the CS program coordinator (see webpage - Phil Conrad I think). Each CCS major is rather different and many CS majors do go straight into industry so it is different to Physics/Biology/Chem/Math in that respect.
Does anyone know what the experience is like for transfers to the CCS Physics major? I’m just hearing about this school now and it sounds absolutely amazing and I wish I had known about it when I was still in high school. Do you still get a great experience if you transfer at the junior level? It sounds like most of the fun stuff happens in the first 2 years… I’ve been in community college for a year now but I’ve yet to take any physics or calc courses… would it be possible to transfer at the freshman level? However, my high school grades were terrible so it’s probably for the best that I stay in community college to build a better academic record with which to transfer with… Man I wish I had known about this program sooner!
That description of figuring out the equation of a pendulum by yourself with just the equipment sounds amazing. I really hope to do stuff like that during my physics classes! That’s the kind of stuff I imagined college to be like… I really want to get involved in research as well. I always read books about 20th century physics and it’s amazing how back then lots of physicists were truly mentored by another major physicists and had that personal relationship when learning the art of experimentation or even theoretical physics. I always wish it could still be like that, an apprenticeship of sorts, instead of a ‘one size fits all’ method. But most of that was in Europe, anyways. And at higher levels, typically.
Did anyone who applied receive a conformation email?
Did anyone get chancellor invite?
@Ballerina016 I got neither. My stats are quite above average so I’m a little on edge.
