@College4Fun Thank you! do you know if the admitted stats include people who got in off the waitlist or appeal?
Just sent in my appeal!! Super nervous!
@ctehin good luck
Waitlist for sociology
Gpa when applied : 2.85
After academic renewal and taking an 8 week class, I was able to raise my gpa to a 3.08 which I included in the appeal I sent two weeks ago. The wait is killing me. Goodluck to everyone on here, hope we all get in !
Hi everyone! I was waitlisted.
Major: Psychology
Past GPA: 3.1
Current GPA: 3.2
Classes still needed: Calculus, chem 1, chem 2, cell bio, zoology, botany
Classes taken: Psychology, stats
I didn’t appeal the waitlist, because I can’t tell if I can do so or not if I’m already waitlisted.
So we’re supposed to find out after June 1 until June 30!! Soooo nerve racking I can’t… buy good luck to everyone!!!
I know i’m getting so nervous!! lol
So I emailed them about the date we should find out, their response was it should be right after June 1 which assume is gonna be June 2nd. However, after June 1 there’s a weekend, so I guess the earliest we can find out is on June 4. I’m really nervous because I was browsing through the freshman waitlist thread, almost all of them are rejected I’m not sure if transfer will be the same case.
@siarota That makes me more nervous lol! I hate anticipation. I’m sure it’s completely different for freshman but it’s also a little scary. I saw no one got off of it too, but I’m hoping a lot of transfers who got into ucsb end up going to other uc’s and clearing up spots for us but who knows what will happen. So scary
Those result can be inferred. We can run a 5year average yield rate and multiply this by the 5year average number of acceptances for our respective departments. … to find, on average, how much space is remaining each year, → for the 6th year–>(our year) …albeit as long as there isn’t much variation from year to year in the raw total acceptances.
Now that we know how much space is likely left in our dept this year, barring an ‘outlier year’, we can add this total to the 5year average number of acceptances. Call this value x. Your chance of getting picked on the waitlist is 1:X, assuming spots are offered to waitlist applicants at random.
An example, If you look at letters (English, History, Philosophy,) there was enough extra space in these majors than there were applicants who applied. The number of unfilled acceptances+ the number of original acceptances , is greater than the number of total# applicants, Accepted & Rejected! Meaning a waitlist in these majors is likely a 99% chance of getting picked.
The waitlist deadline is May 15th and spots begin to be counted for us starting June 2nd. Since the deadline for appeals of admission decisons, both waitlist and rejection, is June 15th, appeals may be still sitting in a pile while offers are being sent out to waitlist applicants who accepted their offer in time. UCSB also says that space is not set aside for appeal applicants. Im willing to bet Waitlist applicants are 2nd sting and Appeals are 3rd string with extra spots being handed out accordingly.
@College4Fun the thing is, every department & major have their goal enrollments, so they tend to admit more students than the actual spot numbers according to their yield rate. Such as if for their CS major, the goal is to enroll 100 students, but based on the yield rate for previous years, they admitted 200 students just to ensure they have more students to fill the spot. But this is the first year for UCSB to use waitlist for transfer students, so they might rely on waitlist heavily. So we’ll see how it goes…
@cte yeah. I was hoping that in the face of uncertainty and avoiding the possibility of telling students ‘nevermind’ go home we admitted to many by accident, the number won’t be to much higher. Fingers crossed either way
I just found out my professor is giving me a D in one of my major prep courses should I tell them now?
@ashleyes yes, call them immediately and be prepared to explain the reason you received a D
Waitlisted!!
Major: Communications
I applied with TAG but my GPA fell to a 3.17 at the end of my fall semester because of a C in stats, instead of having the guaranteed GPA of a 3.20
IGETC is completed and I should finish my final semester at CC with straight A’s maybe one B in Econ
I’m super nervous because I was counting on SB from the very beginning and don’t really want to go to my backup school. Should I appeal now or wait until June 15 to see if the decision has been made by then? is anyone else on the same boat here?
@steelmagnolias I’m a comm major too! You should appeal asap in my opinion! But I heard if you get rejected from the waitlist you can appeal that decision? I’m not sure if that’s true though and if it is I doubt you can appeal twice lol
yes exactly! if I can only appeal once then I would like to do that if that is the only option I have left. Hopefully we get notified before June 15th!
I was looking back at this discussion, and it doesn’t really make sense how you got waitlisted with TAG if the guaranteed GPA is over a 3.20 were you missing transfer requirements if I may ask?
@steelmagnolias At the time I applied I still had 2 required classes left but I completed them this last semester. I’m not sure why i got waitlisted but I know if they get too many applicants for a major, they can’t accept everyone that TAGed and met the requirements, but I don’t really know. It’s stressful cuz UCSB was the only school I applied to
I’m so nervous!!
