Im somewhat unclear on whats up with transfers getting into the honors program. Im wondering what their selection criteria is and when I would know if I can do it. I have a 3.9 gpa and am majoring in physics.

Ive heard I would have known upon admission. Ive also heard that eligible transfers are notified in may. If this is the case does anyone know when? and has anyone gotten accepted into it already?

you will likely be admitted into the honors program imho

i think its bs how they do this, i went to the college of l&s seminar at spring insight and asked relatively the same question and he basically said that transfer students will be selected based on seperate gpa criteria, i believe it was some top percentage and he said that spring 2012 grades are NOT considered. Had they been considered i would easily get it. and the worst is that transfers only get one window of opportunity to get into honors. He recommends distinction in your major if honors is no longer an option. But to me isnt distinction in your major all of the same requirements with no perks and like 1/4 the prestige?? and btw ive heard both at admission and in may as well. its still vague to me.

Other than being able to enroll in classes early, what are the perks of having honors? I was accepted with a 3.98 and was not notified about honors either.

you and Arikaplan should both have a good shot still then. another perk that i know of is priority housing. In dorms there are floors reserved for honors students. Also being in the honors program qualifies you for certain grants that have pretty significant payout. Also youll obviously stand out to employers. theres probably more but thats all im coming up with off the top of my head. they have their own website. lookup honors program at college of l&s at ucsb. see what comes up.
