Yeah the site was messing my thread up… But I got invited through email to join the UCSB college of letters & science honors program for my major business econ + emph in accounting… Anyone else get this email?? And what do you think, are the perks good enough to join at UCSB? Is it more established, and could I get better shots at internships??

bump ^^^^^^

I got the email. Doesn’t everyone get the ‘opportunity’ to be part of their honors program? Oh well, too late now. Already sirred to Berkeley.

Well if you read the letter it says, “Because of your outstanding academic achievements, you are one of a select group of transfer students who are invited to become a member of the College of Letters and Science Honors Program.” Only those with a 3.6+ GPA are invited if I remember correctly. I too am contemplating joining for Business Economics, however I don’t know much about the program.

Yeah is it anyone with 3.6 + or do they also look at essays?? Im just a bit curious to know more and I dont really wanna just call them and ask them if its worth it, of course they willl tell me it is

It sounds like you are automatically accepted just for having the required gpa. I would like to hear from someone who is in the program and if it is worth it or not.

i, too, would like to know since i got the same e-mail. it says typical things like priority registration, distinctions, etc., but i would really like to know the perks of the program.

I have above a 3.6 and havent been invited yet… did you send in your transcripts??

@UCSB2012 my friend and I both have over a 3.6, SIRed, but havent sent our transcripts in and haven’t been invited. maybe they have to evaluate our transcripts first?

I SIRed, haven’t sent in my transcripts but was invited. You might try contacting the honors program, maybe they can answer your questions.

I joined the program this last quarter as a first year. I have seen both sides of it now, and can say that it’s definitely worth it. The only responsibilities associated with the honors program are 3.5+ gpa (which you should do anyway), a certain amount of honors units (more like a privilege) and some community service (next to none). My pass times (choosing classes) happen ~a week before my room mates, allowing me to get all the classes I want, and even be picky about section times and such.

I am in the Econ&Accounting major, which is the new replacement for bus/ec+accounitng.

Awesome thanks for the info akdmx

im actually going down to SB this evening, so im going to try to get to the bottom of this honors program invite tomorrow at UCSB…hopefully the rest of us with a 3.6+ will have the opportunity to join the program as well.

Sounds good, let me know what they say about it
