UCSB Living

Am I the only one that’d rather live with freshman than other transfers?

I want to live in Isla Vista because it seems cheaper, but want to meet transfers. So I also want to get an apartment at school…but they cost more and they’re further than apartments in IV that I’ve seen on the fb group page. :-/ May I know why you want to live with freshman @Pastas ?

@Pastas honestly, you actually might be lol not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I think for the most part transfers like to stick by and large with each other re: housing

@ananguiano it may have to do with the fact that when I start I’ll be 18

@Pastas Ohh makes sense! Are you a 1 yr transfer? I’m 19, but I’ll be 20 this September.

@bobaloverr Yup, and I’m already young for my grade so the incoming freshman are basically my age.

@Pastas I’m in the same boat as you! I’m a One Year Transfer too, and I’d much rather dorm with people who are either Sophomores or Freshmen. Currently 18, turning 19 next year.

I’ll be 38 in August. I’m hoping I can find a transfer roomie that’s at least 25.

@Pastas Hey, I’m wondering where you saw that transfers were able to live in dorms. I checked the UCSB Housing website, and it states that transfer students are only eligible to live in UCSB University Apartments. If that’s the case, I’m severely disappointed.

Here’s the link: http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/community/transfer-student

So the housing application will open on May 1st right?

@BlackPlasma Yup! Basically after all the UC decisions come out, so that’s nice.

@HeideggerNSartre Ok thats cool. I was a bit lost on navigating through the portal what need to be done. I have been looking at the apartments and am torn between Santa Ynez and Sierra Madre. The benefit of Santa Ynez is that it is closer to campus while Sierra Madre is a bit farther but Sierra Madre is brand new and has newer furniture and appliances. The fridge that comes with Sierra Madre is significantly bigger than the ones at Santa Ynez tho and each bedroom gets its own bathroom for two.

@BlackPlasma Hm. I’ll start considering University Apartments if the Housing Office doesn’t let me live in a dorm this year. Hopefully they buy my argument that “being around peers whose ages are similar to mine is conducive to learning” or something along the lines of that.

@HeideggerNSartre Good luck man, I would try to get a dorm too but the website says transfers can only stay at apartments as the flux of freshmen from the budget increase would require the use of all residence halls. I might try senior year lol.

@BlackPlasma Here’s hoping! I mean, I just want to try to live in a dorm because it would make the housing process a little bit less stressful. Although, I am open to living with somebody who’s a few years older than me in the University Apartments, and it’d be a lot easier than trying to find somebody my age who needs a roommate out in IV.

Since we are mostly going to be in apartments, does anyone know if we will be allowed to stay in said apartments over spring break and such?

I know for most dorms students are forced to leave during certain holidays and such and even spring break.

Btw there is a new apartment complex that will be opened in fall of 2016 so we would be the first ones and everything is new. Plus its right next to the Santa Catalina Res Hall and has access to the pool.

The application is now open guys.

Here is what I put on the housing app.

PREFERENCE 1: 3 bedroom/6 person apartment
PREFERENCE 2: 2 bedroom/4 or 5 person apartment (double or triple occupancy room)
PREFERENCE 3: Any Residence Hall

@BlackPlasma Hm, I’ll probably put down similar options if my request to be allowed to stay in a residence hall is approved.
