I've wanted to go to UCSB for the past two years. I figured I'd never get into Berkeley (my other dream school), so I concentrated on UCSB more when thinking of my future. Well I got into both and now I don't know which to pick.
Would you be able to turn down Berkeley for UCSB? I know I'd love UCSB but of course it doesn't have the prestige that Berkeley does and it's not in a big metroplex. I really like both of them and I just can't pick. :( I know it's my own decision and I won't base it off of a message board, but I just wanted some feedback.

There was a thread similar to this a few days ago:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-santa-barbara/890007-ucsb-over-cal-ucla.html

Do want to end up making money for the rest of your life or be a drunk? go to cal…

Malibu727 is on the waiting list for UCSB, and he is just trying to convince as many people to avoid going to UCSB so he has a better chance of getting in. Don’t mind him.

yasuynnuf1947 is right. Look through malibu’s other posts and you’ll notice that too.

As for which is better, I’d recommend checking out both schools and seeing which has more to offer for a person like yourself.

As true as that may be, why the hell would you turn down Cal.

what’re u majoring in or what do you want in a school?

go to berkely

it depends on what your career goals are. for anything beside Pre-med and pre-law go to berkeley because the 2 above require gpa’s of atleast 3.6+ which is very hard to get at berkeley

if you wanna do engineering go to SB if anything else go to cal

i would totally pick berkeley over SB, but that’s just me. It just makes you look so much better when looking for a job after college.

Berkeley is way more competitive… your average student who gets into Berkeley will be way above average at UCSB, so you won’t have to work nearly as hard to get the same grades. UCSB is pretty laid back overall (and I’m not just talking about the fact that it’s a party school). If you really care about going to a prestigious college, Berkeley is obviously the better choice for that, but UCSB is still a UC, so it won’t look bad by any means.

Also, if you haven’t visited them both, you should try to do that if you can before you make your final decision. That’s really the only way to figure out if you like the general feel of the campus, and that’s definitely important, because you’re going to be living there for four years. In my opinion, Berkeley has a really nice, authentic, old college feel to it, while Santa Barbara is more modern and has the nice beachy vibe.

I got into both, and ended up going to UCSB. They did bribe me with a good sized scholarship, though, so I’m not sure which one I would have chosen if all things had been equal.

what’s your intended major?

I was wondering the same thing. I recently sat in a couple of classes at ucsb this week and they seemed very community college-y and the proffesors weren’t very professional. Granted they weren’t the most challenging courses and I plan to pursue engineering which I assume will be more difficult. Bottom line does the difficulty of these genral classes I sat in reflect that of the engineering dept? And how rigerous is engineering at ucsb compared to cal? And if your wondering why I don’t just go to cal I’m more of laid back type person so I thought I might have a better experience in Sb.
