Hey, if you find this thread welcome to the group. I know we must be feeling devastated by waiting more time but let’s help one another with info. Let’s stay positive!
I plan to appeal because my first year of cc went poorly and I failed a few classes. I had to use one of those failed classes in my application because I couldn’t repeat it until spring 2019. After this semester is over my GPA should be at a 3.22 so I think I will have a strong case for admission hopefully!
Not sure if this thread will continue but just in case
Waitlisted on April 22nd
Major: Sociology
MAJOR GPA: 3.4
Cumulative GPA: 3.0
TAG: Yes
IGETC: Yes
Just in case this thread comes back to life, does anyone happen to know any info on waitlisting? Like what the rate is for getting off the waitlist or if they waitlist by major??
Major:cultural anthropology - yield rate 17%
GPA 3.1- after this semester 3.4
IGETC: done this semester
4 AAs this year
2017 looked like a good year, about 1/4 of wait-listed were accepted
2018 is a horror story, out of almost 5k students wait-listed, only 14 were accepted
Applicants are slightly down this year, but i cant find any stats on how many were admitted or enrolled, wish they had a clock like the national debt clock or something
I had a bumpy first couple years, but the last 2 years I’ve been on the deans list every semester, sucks bruh
This is giving me diarrhea
At least our misery has company
Major: Pre-Political Science
GPA: 3.13 (UC transferrable)
IGETC: Completed last semester
Pre-reqs: All completed other than the ones that could not be “articulated” at any CCC’s near me
Also waitlisted at UCSD
Accepted: CSULB, CSUM, CSUSM,UCR
@sh1tngwthanxiety Hey!! Where are you getting your stats about the waitlists?
Also they post their stats on how many were admitted and how many enrolled on here but they probably wont update this year’s stats til the end of this year.
@sh1tngwthanxiety I think the 14 admitted was for freshmen not transfers. Looking at the thread from last year a good amount of transfers got off the wait list but almost no freshmen admitted. My guess would be that freshmen still need to complete the lower division courses, which they probably want to keep a bit of space open in these classes for people to complete general education requirements. Im also an anthology major and with a 17% yield rate from last year I hope the department will have plenty of space for us transfers. I also hope there are a lot of people graduating in anthropology this spring.
Hey guys I was Waitlisted on April 26
I’m a comparative literature major with a 3.4 gpa no tag cc transfer. I opted in for the waitlist but the longer I wait I have no intentions of going to UCSB
I got waitlisted on April 25th, 2019. I am coming from a CC ( Only attended CC ) as a transfer student for Computer Science (Secondary Major Computer Engineering) I am honestly pretty upset, but hopeful that space will free up. My GPA was 3.71 and I completed every major requirement, for anyone who is curious.
Just to let you guys know make sure your GPA’s correct with a counselor. I filled out a TAG and I have a 3.8 GPA with all other requirements completed. I should be admitted no questions asked right now, but last week I meet with a counselor to find out why I was wait listed. Apparently they can see F’s that I have from 6 years ago that bring my GPA down to a 2.99 this made my TAG invalid and I wont be getting into any school with a GPA like that. From my meeting with the counselor I can conclude that no one is looking at applications and this is all a numbers games, transfer acceptance is based on completed requirements and GPA (No one has actually looked at your application). He was saying most people that are going to get accepted off the wait list are people in the 3.2-3.1 GPA bracket, pretty much if you had a good GPA you should have gotten accepted (Unless your major is impacted) there must be something else going on to why you didn’t get accepted, other requirements not met. I’m currently trying to fix my transcripts with my old school in time for wait list decisions. Hopefully this will bump me up to a higher bracket and get me off the wait list, or makes me re-eligible for my TAG. I’m not sure on how the GPA brackets work on the wait list. What i am sure of is that the people with the highest GPA’s on the wait list are going to bet the ones to get admitted, so if there are eligible people on the wait list with 4.0’s we’re screwed. My counselor made it seem like the odds of getting off the wait list are pretty bad. He pretty much said its not going to happen if my GPA doesn’t change, and its still very unlikely even if i raised it up to a 3.1 (that was only removing 1 of my F’s). Your best chance of getting off the wait list is getting your GPA up. I highly suggest looking up the transfer counselor for your school and ask them to look up why you were placed on the wait list and go from there. A lot of us got wait listed and we don’t know why.
I now understand why I wasn’t admitted to any other school I applied to because they saw a low GPA. Once I get things cleared up I will be able to appeal at the schools I was denied admission from.
Does anyone know if they pick off the waitlist for select majors? Is your waitlist position determined by how many people in your major accepted their admission offer?
@Tracedg Your major factors in but there is no way to determine how many people from your major will accept admission. Potentially everyone granted admission in you major could accept the offer, that would mean there would be no space. What is going to get you off the wait list is your GPA. If there is only 3 spots that open up then the people with the highest gpa’s that applied for that major will be selected. I got wait listed with a low gpa so it is unlikely I will be admitted even if my major has space. what is you GPA and major?
This years thread compared to last years has no people at all… I’m kind of hoping that means not as many people were waitlisted this year and we’ll actually have a chance lol
