Is the culture for grad students similar to undergrads at UCSB (i.e. excessive partying) and is there much interaction between undergrad and grad students?

I really want to go to UCSB and enjoy some Cali sunshine for a year as I pursue a masters, however I feel that an excessive party atmosphere would be a detriment to my overall experience. Basically I just want to be super chill for one year before I go off into the real world. Is it possible to avoid the huge party scene and still enjoy the beautiful weather and beach as a grad student? I like to go out a couple times a month but from what I heard UCSB is all party all the time. Anyone have any insight?

SB is AMAZING! I go to UCSB as an undergrad right now- done in dec. Honestly, it’s not that hard to stay away from the party-life! Here’s the secret: don’t live in Isla Vista (the college area). I transfered in as a junior and lived there 1 year. I now live about 10 minutes away from the school. It is sooo quiet and easy to stay focused!

Be encouraged! If you want to enjoy beautiful Cali/UCSB you can do it!!!
