Soooo im in a huge predicament.
I got into UCSD,UCSC,and UCSB and technically i am going to ucsb as i sent in my SIR already :/
BUT now im having second thoughts. I chose the school because of it's location and pressure from my parents. However, from what i've seen i dont think i like the "scene" much at SB. i dont think i'd get along with the "preppy" population that makes up most of that school. I could be wrong but that's the impression i got from that school.

my dream school was Berkeley but i was rejected. I am considering waiting a year and then reapplying there and Davis (because i am told davis is pretty similar to Berkeley). I am almost positive that if i had applied to Davis this year i would have gotten in...as for Berkeley i have less of a shot of getting in there.

I was also debating between going to Bard College in New York, and i was really leaning there for a while but decided not to go last minute. However, it may have been a better match for me. How silly would it be to wait a year and then reapply to a school that i was already admitted to?!

I am reallllly conflicted and would like any advice that you can offer.
thank you

It's not silly to wait a year and reapply to wherever. There's no rush to finish college. You don't get a prize for finishing early. As long as you're not going into debt, taking another year to figure out what you really want is perfectly reasonable.

How I see it is, we only have one life to live, so we need to make the best of all of our opportunities, so if cal is your dream school, I would go for it.

Did you visit ucsb yet? From humors and things you here from others, it would seem as if ucsb has that "preppy" population, but after I visited the school, it was completely different than the rumors, but thats my opinion.

If I were you, I would go to UCSB, its not that big of a deal which school you graduate from as long as you graduate. I don't see how you can say Davis and Berkeley are the same... Berkeley is a lot tougher and harder to get in.
In fact, I would say Davis and SB are the same.

Oh, and what makes you think if you reapply next year you will get in? It's not a guarantee, plus it sounds like you gonna have to work extra hard this year.

if you wanna get into davis EARLIER, i know they take people for the winter quarter if you apply during the summer! then you only wait 1/2 a year!

"if you wanna get into davis EARLIER, i know they take people for the winter quarter if you apply during the summer! then you only wait 1/2 a year!"

Actually, this year, UC Davis isn't accepting winter transfers because of the budget cuts. (Not sure if this is 100% correct, but that's what I heard from the Davis rep.)

The first thing you should do TMR12, is stop letting your parents pressure you so much into doing what they want you to do. I mean really its YOUR life and YOUR going to be spending the next 4-5 years at that UC, not them

2nd thing you should do is think, would it really be worth it, and really just assume the worst in this situation. Yeah I said worse, because each year it gets harder and harder to compete (or maybe it was the year of 08 cause, lets face it the class of 08 is the best!!!) So yeahh, you can ALWAYS transfer in 2 years if you really wanna still go to another UC or w/e but just remember that your more fortunate than others for even getting an oppurtunity like that, and that things happen for a reason, and in the end it should work out for you.

i think that you should visit UCSB first. reading from this site i thought that everyone was going to be preppy and that everyone just wants to party. But in reality theres a very diverse group of students with different priorities. UCSB is not overwhelmed by white, good looking people who enjoy laying out at the beach all day. My tour guide told me that 1/3 of student who graduate at UCSB go straight to getting their masters.

in conclusion, you should visit their campus and make your own judgment because UCSB is a GREAT school. and if you feel like you can live there for a couple of years then go for it. also visit Cal... that campus isnt as laid back as UCSB and rumor has it that theyre very left and hippyish.
