I was admitted to both UCSB as a communication major, and Cal Poly SLO as a business major. I am planning to pursue a career in business but because UCSB does not have a business major I applied under communication. Which school will be best in helping me find jobs related to business after graduating?
@potterwizwand Hi! Congratulations on two great options. Have you visited both campuses? Did you have a preference for which is a better fit? I’m a UCSB alum so biased towards UCSB and happy to answer questions there :-). I am a recruiter for non-technical positions with a Fortune 500 healthcare company and I can tell you that the reality is we generally hire based on how well the candidate interviews and it wouldn’t make a difference to us if the candidate did their undergrad at CalPoly or UCSB as they’d both be viewed favorably. We also don’t care much about what you majored in (this differs greatly for our engineering positions). We do care about leadership positions, part-time work experience, examples of working in a team environment, maintaining above a 3.0, and having excellent communication skills. Internship experience is also a plus. So bottom line, it’s really about which school is a better “fit” for you and where you see yourself thriving. Best of luck to you!
Hello, I was accepted for financial mathematics and statistics at UCSB. Planning on going a trading/IB route, are there any business related fraternities or IB clubs at UCSB and if so is it worth joining them? Also accepted to CSU LB which is closer to LA internships but I don’t mind moving to LA during the summer.
@Wants2Bank Yes, and yes! The business fraternity is called Alpha Kappa Psi, and I believe they have a website with details of how to join (rush), etc. Tons of back to school info on clubs, etc when you start! Enjoy!
