UCSB also has a better engineering program than Cal Poly SLO, although Cal Poly does still have a good program.

The issue at hand is not who has the better engineering program but which business program is better tailored to this student. Haha engineers tend to think the world revolves around them and their departments totally dismissing nearly everything else.

As far as business programs amongst the PolyTech colleges CalPoly Pomona has the stronger of the two…BUT…Pomona is terribly boring and their program isn’t nearly as interesting as SLO’s. If she is going for ‘business’ major with supporting minor (like econ, marketing, industrial, information systems etc) then she wants to go to SLO. If she specifically desires ‘Business Econ’ or ‘Actuary Science’ then she wants to go to UCSB.
Neither school is better than the other except in certain areas but I will you tell you one thing…Business leaders and recruiters do tend to go and seek out more SLO students than ones graduating from UCSB because of CalPolys ‘hands on’ philosophical approach.
Your grades and major is what will count to grad schools, not whether you went to a CSU Poly Tech vs. a UC. Although CalPoly is more expensive than other CSU’s, it still ends up being thousands cheaper than UCSB for the pretty much the same quality of education. I have friends that went to both schools for business and would have to say my CalPoly friends seemed overall more pleased with their education. They also got more employment opportunities once graduated with their bachelors degree. Personally, SLO is not as fun as SB which would affect my decision making but besides that would choose CalPoly’s program. Orfalea is very high rated business school as many of CalPoly’s bachelor programs give nearly all of the UC’s on the bachelor level a run for their money.
