hi,
i was wondering if they accept people off of the waitlist by what high school they go to? like if someone from your high school with the same major as you rejects their admission do you have a better chance of getting admitted?
No, waitlists are not prioritized by the HS but unfortunately the UCās are not transparent how the accept off the waitlists.
Do we think theyāll still take a lot of students from the waitlist? I know it probably wonāt be as high as last year but hopefully not as low as 2019. What do you guys think?
Is it better to be waitlisted or to be admitted as undeclared? I got waitlisted at UCSB and admitted undeclared into UCSD. I am only interested in one major (CS), so I think I still have a chance at UCSB, however small, but I donāt have a chance at UCSD even though admitted. Is that right?
You are admitted at UCSD so you have a better chance of changing majors to CS, even if it is a lottery, than being accepted off the waitlist for UCSB as a CS major. More than likely depending upon their yield, you will be admitted at UCSB into your alternate major.
At the moment, you really only have 1 choice UCSD unless you have a direct admit elsewhere. You will have to SIR (enroll) somewhere by May 1. If you happen to get off the waitlist at UCSB and if you are so lucky to get into your 1st choice major CS, then great you are set. If not then, you need to decide UCSB for whatever major you have been admitted or UCSD as Undeclared.
Remember waitlist stats from last year are not indicative for this year. I believe the waitlists will be utilized this year but probably not to the extent of last year. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.
Thanks for your input! I have been accepted into SE at Cal Poly, and since that is a sure thing, UCSD lottery is not very interesting. If I get picked off UCSB waitlist then thatās a sure thing too, and Iād prefer that over Cal Poly. Not holding my breath though, since very few people get accepted from waitlist in a normal year.
The waitlist message in my portal does not say anything about a LOCI. I was thinking of writing one and sending it to both the local UCSB rep (I am OOS) and to the AO. UCSB is my number one school choice and maybe if I reiterate that, along with telling them about my accomplishments since I submitted my application it would help? Maybe a little? What do you advise?
UC Recommendations are that if are waitlisted, only submit the information requested. Any other information such as LOCIās will not be considered.
I know that last year several waitlisted applicants sent LOCIās and were admitted but last year UCSB admitted the majority of waitlisted applicants and did not have anything to do with the LOCI.
Logic here, if you were not interested in attending UCSB, you would not opt into the waitlist, correct?
Hey do you think waitlist admissions will be the same as they were in 2019? Since more schools went test optional, people applied to more schools. Do you think that will have a noticeable effect on the waitlist admit rate?
I think the waitlist admits will be higher than 2019 but much lower than 2020 stats.
Can it hurt to write a LOCI? I understand they may not look/consider it, but I wonder if thereās any harm in writing one like if they would be bothered by it.
If it makes you feel better, then write the LOCI but if I worked in admissions, I would not want to deal with several thousand LOCIās that were not asked to be submitted for in the first place. Again, just my opinion.
do you know when waitlist decisions come out? I heard for some people it came out early april or late april to early may.
Last year was an outlier. Almost everyone in the waitlist got in. I wouldnāt expect this year to be like that.
I have been posting this article on all the UC waitlist discussions. Although not specific for the UCās, it brings up valid points and makes for a good read.
what do we expect the admit rate from the waitlist to be?
Yes. Thank you
No way to know since the number waitlisted is unknown, the number that will enroll is unknown and the number of spots available is unknown. Guesstimate lower than last year and slightly higher than the year before.
do you know the reason why we couldnāt send a LOCI/appeal this year as opposed to last year? why the change?
I do not know the reason for the change, but perhaps they were overwhelmed with many LOCIās submitted last year and admissions could not keep up the volume in which to read them.
UCSD use to have a waitlist statement requirement a few years like UCD and UCB but they longer offer that option either.
