I haven’t seen any appeal thread for UCSB so I thought I’d start one. Anyone out there appeal? Heard any news?
Appeals are very unlikely unless you have a compelling reason for the appeal. http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/appeal
@Gumbymom what would an example of a compelling reason?
Reasons for an appeal:
Significant grade increase
Major award or honor
Medical or family issues not originally addressed in your application
Clerical or procedural error with your application such incorrect test scores sent or wrong grade submitted.
All these reasons must be documented.
Hi @Gumbymom I got waitlisted by UCSB yesterday, my current GPA is 2.92, but it is dragged down by an F and C- that I am retaking this semester. Would an increase to my GPA from the 2.92 to around a 3.2 be significant enough in your opinion to possibly win an appeal?
@adpascual: If you are retaking the classes this semester, you still do not have any grades to report on your appeal. You could try to appeal, but I think UCSB was being generous in putting you on the waitlist in the first place with your current GPA. There is no harm in trying but did you not update your TAU in January by stating you were retaking the classes so UCSB would be aware of the retakes? What documentation would you submit?
@Gumbymom I updated my TAU in January letting them know the classes I would be retaking. I wouldn’t appeal until the end of the semester until I have my official grades and gpa to send in.
@Gumbymom If I were to appeal as a waitlisted candidate, upon their decision, could I potentially lose my current placement on the waitlist?
@adpascul: The appeal deadline is June 15th so you do have time. Best of luck and please post with an update.
@anxiousab: If you appeal as a waitlisted applicant, you would not lose your place on the waitlist. If your appeal is denied, you will remain on the waitlist.
I don’t think anyone will hear back until after SIRs are finalized but I did send an appeal as a waitlist! Anticipating the worst but hoping for the best!
Under what premise did you file your appeal?
@TwoforT Basically a combination of relevant family circumstances (bulk of my appeal), significant grade improvements, and other activities that I neglected to mention in my initial application + other mentions of how I think I’d be a good fit, etc.
@Gumbymom I was denied admission by HAAS UC Berkeley. I applied as a transfer student and got the interview. My original scheduled interview was cancelled 30 minutes before and got rescheduled at another day to only a phone call due to technical issue. Is the interview issue a good point to make for appeal? (other applicants did video call, but I only have a voice call)
Anyone heard back from their appeal?
For which school?
Spoke with UCSB admissions today. They said very few straight appeals so far, mostly waitlists. They will be mixed in with waitlists a little at a time. Give it till mid late May she told me. Just an update for anyone out there who is waiting on a straight appeal.
They need to hear back from their waitlist adds to see how many will accept.
I was just rejected by UCSB. How likely do they change ur decision from an appeal? Does anyone know how likely it is
My D was accepted yesterday and she was waitlisted and appealed. I think she got in off the waitlist because appeal says decision still pending.
