UCSB WAITLIST (University of California Santa Barbara)

I hope we hear back today

@cooljon525 decisions are going to be posted in waves all throughout the months of may and june. there’s nothing we can do but sit back and wait :frowning: hope we all get in!

@Just4Years - it was a combination of things. Yes she did show them why she was interested in UCSB. And sending the appeal allowed her to include two excellent letters of recommendation that she could not do in the initial application submission. Plus by sending in a appeal, your application is brought back to the top of the pile and re-reviewed (we were hoping they missed something). But I think one of the main reasons her appeal was approved, was that her HS counselor called the admissions officer at UCSB that was in charge of my daughter’s high school, and gave them her personal recommendation, and also mailed another letter of recommendation to the same admissions officer as a follow-up. That was amazing that her HS counselor would do that for my daughter.

@yasv11 thanks! Sorry I don’t know all her details. But I believe her GPA was 4.4 and her ACT was 32. She did a lot of volunteer work at a local hospital for her junior and senior year. Plus all that HS club community service stuff, so her ECs were ok.

@yasv11 I don’t think it should take that long if you appealed. I think it will come out this week

@overlyworriedparent What’s her major (where UCI’s is better than UCD)? Is yours a public HS or private. She got a great counselor for sure!

@cooljon525 last year even some people who appealed got their decision near the end of june

@yasv11 They all got rejected though.

@cooljon525 oh ok that makes sense haha

I checked 15 minutes ago and I got in!

@Colegioplz congrats! did you appeal? what are your stats?

hey guys i just wanted to add my 2cents into the mix.

I was ADMITTED today(5/3) from my appeal to UCSB, and im stoked.

i checked this site many times to see any info that could give me hope the last 2 months. I checked Ms.Suns wait-list/appeal data from years dating back to 2010, read forums, and looks at any related websites. I checked my portal everyday. I know what its like for any of you future waitlistees/appeals to have to wait. Just make sure you stay positive and do your research on what betters your chances from this position.

@neurocrazy can you provide a link for Ms. Suns website where it says all the waitlist/appeal data? thanks! oh btw congrats! are you going there?

@Just4Years What made UCI more desirable for her was the chance to minor or change major in an engineering or comp sci major (like Bio Sci Major with a minor in CS with Bioinformatics specialization). Her HS is public, and is super competitive with almost all her class on honor roll.

@neurocrazy congrats! I totally agree with you. “…stay positive and do your research on what betters your chances from this position…”. We also looked at all the information we could find on wait list and appealing decisions. Even joined one of Ms. Sun’s skype sessions (for a fee) on appealing waitlist/rejections that she held about a week before the appeal submission deadline. Very informative and helpful.

From what I read so far on CC, most students admitted through the waitlist at this time, were students that appealed the decision. Just my guess here, but maybe by appealing you show the UC that you are VERY interested and will not take no for an answer. Or maybe by appealing, you bring your application to the top of the pile for review first (again, 'betters your chances"). Or not. Who knows. Admissions is a black box, not sure what it takes to get admitted to a UC. I do know that my daughter appealed her wait list decisions at both UCI and UCSB, and is 2-for-2 for getting admitted (and admitted to UCI a week before the SIR deadline, which was what we hoped for). So appeals do work some way or another. And she will end with a perfect 2-for-2 admitted record on appeals because these are the only two appeals she submitted

Totally freaking out!! I was taken off the waitlist! I’m a pre-bio major and did not think I’d get in at all let alone taken off the waitlist.
ACT- 28 gpa- not really positive anymore 3.8 I think. I also did not appeal. I’m in total freak out mode. Congrats to the others who were also taken off and good luck to those still waiting!

@NORCAL45 Congrats!!!. Idk why I didn’t hear back yet, i appealed.

@cooljon525 haha we both probably got rejected :frowning:

@cooljon525 thank you and I’m sure they will be releasing more acceptances over the month so stay positive!!!

Did you get an email notification when you are taken off WL or you just check portal all the time?
